Position Overview Brookfield Country Club is seeking an experienced, energetic, and service-oriented Director of Aquatics to lead and oversee all aspects of the Club's aquatics operations. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and exceptional aquatic experience for members and their families while ensuring the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, programming, and service. The Director of Aquatics will provide leadership for the Club's pool operations, aquatics staff, swim instruction, competitive programming, youth activities, and special events. This individual will work closely with Club leadership and other departments to ensure the aquatics program reflects Brookfield's commitment to excellence, innovation, and exceptional member experiences. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, sound judgment, and the ability to build positive relationships with members, families, and staff. Essential Responsibilities Aquatics Operations Oversee the daily operation of all Club swimming pools. Develop and implement operating procedures that promote safety, efficiency, and exceptional service. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Maintain accurate records related to pool operations, inspections, incidents, certifications, and staff training. Monitor pool conditions, water quality, cleanliness, equipment, and overall facility presentation. Coordinate with the Director of Facilities and Assistant General Manager regarding pool equipment, repairs, preventative maintenance, and capital improvements. Establish and maintain emergency action plans and aquatic safety protocols. Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure all staff understand and follow established procedures. Staff Leadership & Development Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all aquatics personnel. Develop comprehensive onboarding and training programs for lifeguards, swim instructors, attendants, and seasonal staff. Ensure appropriate staffing levels based on pool usage, programming, and safety requirements. Maintain current certifications and training requirements for all applicable staff. Foster a professional, positive, and service-oriented team culture. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities. Manage staff schedules and payroll in accordance with Club policies and departmental budgets. Aquatics Programming Develop and oversee a comprehensive annual aquatics program that meets the needs and interests of the membership. Manage youth swim programs, swim lessons, clinics, camps, water fitness, family activities, and other aquatic programming. Oversee the Club's competitive swim program, including coordination with coaches, teams, meets, and league requirements. Develop innovative programming designed to increase participation and enhance the member experience. Evaluate programming regularly and make recommendations for improvements and new offerings. Coordinate special aquatic events and activities throughout the season. Member Experience Create an inviting, family-friendly, and service-focused pool environment. Develop strong relationships with members and respond professionally to questions, concerns, and feedback. Maintain a visible leadership presence at the pool and during major aquatics events. Work closely with Membership, Food & Beverage, Tennis, and other departments to create integrated family programming. Identify opportunities to enhance the overall pool experience through improved services, amenities, programming, and technology. Ensure the aquatics department consistently reflects the standards and image of Brookfield Country Club. Budget & Administration Develop and manage the annual aquatics department budget in coordination with Club leadership. Monitor departmental expenses and identify opportunities to improve efficiency without compromising safety or service. Assist with purchasing equipment, supplies, uniforms, chemicals, and other departmental needs. Maintain appropriate inventory levels and establish purchasing procedures. Prepare departmental reports and provide regular updates to Club management. Assist with long-term planning for aquatics facilities, equipment, programming, and capital improvements. Safety & Risk Management Make safety the highest priority throughout all aquatics operations. Ensure appropriate lifeguard coverage and adherence to established safety standards. Conduct and document regular emergency drills and staff training. Maintain current certifications and ensure staff certifications remain up to date. Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and member concerns. Work with Club leadership and insurance/risk management representatives as appropriate. Stay current on industry standards, regulations, and best practices in aquatic safety. Collaboration The Director of Aquatics will work collaboratively with Club leadership and department heads to create a cohesive and exceptional member experience. This position will regularly interact with: General Manager/Club leadership Director of Facilities Director of Tennis Golf Department Food & Beverage Department Communications Human Resources/Administration Maintenance and Grounds Qualifications Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in aquatics, recreation, pool management, or a related field. Previous supervisory or departmental leadership experience required. Current lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid, and applicable pool operator certifications required Experience managing seasonal and/or youth-focused aquatics programs strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of aquatic safety practices, pool operations, and applicable regulations. Strong organizational, administrative, and scheduling abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, seasonal environment. Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to interact professionally with members of all ages. Ability to recruit, motivate, train, and retain seasonal employees. Seasonal & Year-Round Expectations The Director of Aquatics will play a significant role in planning and preparing for the Club's peak summer season while also supporting year-round planning and development of the aquatics program. Responsibilities include annual program development, staffing plans, budgeting, hiring, training, facility preparation, and post-season evaluation. Following each season, the Director will conduct a comprehensive review of operations, member feedback, staffing, programming, financial performance, and safety procedures and make recommendations for the following year.
