Flight Planning:
Determine the safest and most economical routes using specialized software, tracking real-time weather, wind patterns, and airspace restrictions. •
Fuel Calculations:
Compute the exact fuel loads needed for the trip, accounting for taxiing, flight time, payload, and emergency or alternate airport contingencies. •
Safety Monitoring:
Maintain constant contact with flights in progress, providing pilots with updated weather reports, turbulence advisories, and sudden airspace changes. •
Emergency Management:
Co-manage in-flight emergencies alongside the captain, recommending alternate landing locations and coordinating with air traffic control. •
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all flights comply with strict federal aviation regulations, company policies, and weight limits before signing the dispatch release. Requirements Legal & Certification Requirements •
FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate:
A mandatory federal license for major commercial airlines (or the equivalent national aviation authority certificate outside the US). •
Language Proficiency:
Must be fully fluent in reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English, which is the global aviation standard. Education & Experience •
High School Diploma:
The minimum academic requirement. •
Degree Preferred:
A Bachelor's degree in aviation management, aeronautical science, meteorology, or a related field is highly preferred by major carriers. •
Prior Experience:
Experience working in airport operations, air traffic control, flight planning, or as a commercial pilot or military controller is highly valued. Essential Skills •
Weather & Meteorology:
Strong ability to interpret complex weather charts, radar images, and terminal forecasts (METARs and TAFs). •
Spatial & Analytical Thinking:
Sharp logic to solve logistical issues, calculate complex weight and balance formulas, and multi-task under tight deadlines. •
Decisiveness Under Pressure:
Capability to make rapid, safety-critical decisions during severe weather delays or mechanical emergencies. •
Clear Communication:
