Job Description

Community Development Advisor - Recovery and Resilience E ngā iwi, e ngā karangatanga huri noa i te motu, tēnei te mihi atu ki a koutou katoa. He īnoi tēnei ki a koe. Tono mai ki tētahi tūnga ki te Kaunihera o Ōtautahi Help strengthen Ōtautahi Christchurch's ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from disruption. We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Community Development Advisor to help build the systems, partnerships and community capability that support effective recovery and long-term resilience across Christchurch. About the role | Ko te mahi nei This role sits within our Community Support and Partnerships Unit and works across Council, communities and partner agencies. You will lead the establishment and coordination of practical recovery systems and processes, support recovery readiness and delivery, and help implement the Unit's Resilience Workplan. Maintain recovery templates, tools, guidance and systems so Council can stand up an effective recovery function quickly. Support the transition from emergency response into recovery, including governance, reporting, information flows and Recovery Office arrangements. Coordinate recovery planning, risk tracking, assurance, recordkeeping and close-out activity. Capture lessons from events and embed them into future planning, training and organisational readiness. Lead initial delivery of the Community Support and Partnerships Resilience Workplan. Work alongside communities, rūnanga, schools, government agencies and other partners to strengthen local preparedness, capacity and resilience. Provide trusted strategic and operational advice on recovery, resilience and associated funding. Assess Community Grant Funding applications where relevant About you | Ko Koe Tēnei You are an experienced advisor who can move confidently between strategic thinking, practical delivery and trusted relationship-building. You are organised, calm under pressure and able to turn complex information into clear advice and workable systems.
You will bring:
A relevant tertiary qualification in community or international development, social sciences, communications, emergency management or a related field. At least ten years' experience in community development, engagement, emergency management or advisory practice. Strong experience working with community organisations, social service providers, government agencies and stakeholder partners. The ability to provide accurate, nuanced and politically aware advice. A demonstrated ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with iwi, communities, territorial authorities and government agencies.
