JOB SUMMARY
The Special Education Director provides leadership and oversight of special education programming across Handprints Academy school locations. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality educational programming, compliance with federal and state special education requirements, and adherence to Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Facility School requirements. The Special Education Director provides ongoing guidance and support to teachers and school leadership, oversees special education systems and documentation, coordinates required state reporting and monitoring activities, and supports the continued development and growth of Academy programming. The Special Education Director works collaboratively with the Executive Director, school leadership, teachers, related service providers, administrative staff, school districts, and CDE to ensure students receive individualized, compliant, and effective educational services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current Colorado administrator license or other licensure/endorsement required by CDE to serve as a Special Education Director Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred Experience in special education administration, leadership, or program oversight Strong knowledge of IDEA, Colorado special education regulations, IEP requirements, and procedural safeguards Knowledge of CDE Facility School requirements and processes strongly preferred Experience supporting or supervising special education teachers and multidisciplinary teams Experience with state reporting, compliance monitoring, and program review preferred Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical school policies, procedures, and systems CPR certification and ability to meet all state and agency background clearance requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and oversight of special education programming across Handprints Academy locations. Ensure educational programming and practices align with student IEPs, special education regulations, CDE requirements, and Academy policies. Serve as the primary internal resource for special education requirements, compliance, and best practices. Collaborate with the Executive Director and school leadership on educational programming, staffing, systems, and continuous program improvement. Provide ongoing consultation, coaching, and technical assistance to special education teachers regarding IEP development, implementation, documentation, and progress monitoring. Review IEPs and educational documentation as needed to support accuracy, compliance, and effective student programming. Support school teams with complex student programming or special education matters requiring administrative guidance. Identify staff training needs and provide or coordinate professional development related to special education practices and requirements. Maintain current knowledge of CDE Facility School requirements and communicate relevant regulatory changes to Academy leadership and staff. Coordinate and oversee required CDE reporting, including the Tuition Costs Final Budget Report, October Count, Approved Facility Report, December Staff Report, and other required submissions. Maintain systems to track compliance requirements, documentation, and reporting deadlines. Attend applicable CDE meetings, trainings, workshops, and informational sessions. Lead preparation for CDE monitoring visits, program reviews, audits, and other regulatory oversight activities. Conduct ongoing review of educational practices and documentation to identify compliance concerns and opportunities for improvement. Develop, review, and maintain special education policies and procedures in accordance with applicable requirements. Coordinate corrective actions or improvement plans when areas of noncompliance or program risk are identified. Collaborate with Academy leadership, teachers, BCBAs, related service providers, administrative teams, and other interdisciplinary team members to support student programming. Participate in meetings with school districts, CDE, families, and other stakeholders when Special Education Director involvement is appropriate. Maintain professional relationships with external educational partners and regulatory agencies. Maintain confidentiality of student, employee, and organizational information in accordance with applicable laws and Academy policies.

$92,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
