Facilities Specialist Acton, MA Apply The Facilities Specialist plays an important role in caring for Discovery Museum\'s unique 4.5-acre campus and supporting the systems, spaces, and infrastructure that make our work possible. The Museum\'s buildings include the 16,000sf main Museum building with exhibit galleries; several acres of outdoor visitor spaces; an Administration (office) Building; Community Building meeting room; Facilities workshop; storage sheds; and parking. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in solving problems, and wants to build a career in facilities, operations, maintenance, or property management while contributing to an organization with a meaningful mission. Key Responsibilities Maintain the Museum\'s facilities, systems, exhibit spaces, staff workspaces and offices, and storage and maintenance spaces through general custodial, light repair work, and assessment/preliminary diagnosis of issues Conduct groundskeeping activities such as mowing, clearing leaves, removing trash and debris, light gardening, and painting Assist with light exhibit fabrication and repair, exhibit setup and take-down, and related activities Help to prepare the Museum for special events, rentals, meetings, etc. and other activities that support non-visitor-based operations General custodial duties such as bathrooms, supply stocking, trash, and the like Other activities that support the Museum a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for all guests Ensure proper upkeep of equipment and tools This position is an on-call position, you may be called in the event of an emergency or other museum need during off hours, and are expected to be reachable Qualifications and Requirements 3+ years of experience in a building maintenance capacity or similar role A background in one or more of the following: landscaping, patching and painting, general building maintenance, including carpentry, light mechanical, exposure to HVAC troubleshooting, plumbing familiarity, and/or general trades experience Ability to undertake winter work including: snow removal work [shovel/snow blower], sanding/salting, inspecting pedestrian walkways, as needed throughout the winter Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small, highly engaged team, and see work through to completion Sufficient proficiency in spoken and written English to understand and accomplish the regular tasks of this role Ability to read, write, and understand English Knowledge of standard tools and appropriate uses High school diploma or GED Valid driver\'s license required Experience with outdoor maintenance is a plus Candidates who have applicable certifications and licenses are strongly preferred All positions at Discovery Museum require a satisfactory Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check. Physical Demands and Work Environment This role includes significant outdoor work with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions; noise levels may be loud at times Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods of time, and be comfortable stooping, kneeling and crouching, and ascending and descending steps and ladders Must be able to comfortably move through both indoor and outdoor spaces on the museum\'s campus This position requires good manual dexterity and stamina Active Filters Facilities Specialist Acton, MA Clear All Apply
