Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing Services (DON) to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for a highly regarded, 5-star rated skilled nursing center. This is an excellent opportunity for a nursing leader who values meaningful relationships with residents, families, and staff while maintaining a strong focus on clinical excellence, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and person-centered care. The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for the overall direction, administration, and clinical oversight of Nursing Services, including quality improvement, regulatory compliance, staffing, professional development, infection prevention, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This is a highly visible leadership position for a hands-on nursing professional who enjoys being actively engaged with residents and staff while providing strategic direction for nursing operations. Although the role is primarily focused on leadership and oversight rather than routine floor coverage, the ideal candidate will be willing to provide direct clinical support when needed. The DON reports directly to the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer & Nursing Home Administrator and plays a key role in supporting organizational goals related to excellence, dignity, resident satisfaction, and quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and oversee all Nursing Services operations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including applicable Department of Public Health requirements. Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives. Oversee resident assessments, care planning, nursing documentation, and clinical outcomes. Manage staffing, scheduling, recruitment, retention, performance management, and employee development. Foster a culture centered on resident dignity, respect, satisfaction, safety, and person-centered care. Oversee infection prevention and control programs and ensure compliance with applicable standards. Collaborate with physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to promote optimal resident outcomes. Develop, implement, review, and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Manage departmental budgets, staffing resources, and operational expenditures effectively. Ensure employee safety, orientation, education, competency validation, and ongoing training requirements are met. Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff and provide direct nursing support when necessary. Monitor clinical performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Participate in committees, strategic initiatives, organizational programs, and community activities. Support overall organizational goals and promote a collaborative, professional work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program. Minimum of five (5) years of nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility, nursing home, or long-term care setting. Previous experience as a Director of Nursing in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment. Strong knowledge of Massachusetts long-term care regulations, Department of Public Health requirements, and survey processes. Demonstrated success in staff leadership, quality improvement, clinical operations, and regulatory compliance. Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and managing departmental budgets. Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, physicians, staff, and organizational leadership. Demonstrated commitment to resident-centered care and clinical excellence.

VMS Pay:
$125,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
