Position Summary:
The Facilities Manager works with and under the fiscal direction of the Board of Trustees (BOT) to ensure that Messiah's physical plant, grounds, and church-owned properties are maintained at a high level of appearance, cleanliness, safety, security, and operation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plan, schedule, and manage facilities related projects on behalf of the church Management of the day to day operations and maintenance of physical plant and grounds of the church and church-owned properties Complete and/or oversee the maintenance of all systems for plumbing, electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), fire safety, security, drainage, and landscaping Perform preventive maintenance activities on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis to reduce wear and tear or breakdown of systems Main contact for members/staff to report repair requests Initiate service calls for routine requests Supervision and management of cleaning service and maintenance/contract service vendors Ensure proper levels of supplies are on hand for contractors/vendors Work with BOT to ensure there are regular inspections of the building to review safety, repair, cleaning and storage needs Notify the BOT and Senior Pastor when safety or security issues are identified Manage the resolution of any problems identified Ensure the facility is compliant with insurance requirements Perform facilities management analysis and forecasting Manage the logistics and set up/tear-down requirements for events in conjunction with church calendar coordinator Enlist, equip and coordinate volunteers for maintenance activities around the church Maintain facilities related contract and vendor files in an orderly fashion
Qualifications:
Be sympathetic to the Christian faith Share the vision of Messiah UMC which is "To be a community of contagious joy". Adhere to policies set forth in the MUMC Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally in English Prior experience in effective facilities administration Knowledge and practical skills for completion of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, painting, landscaping, and roofing work. Ability to interpret complex instruction manuals for HVAC, security, and fire safety systems. The ability to effectively prioritize work and to complete work according to a schedule Work cooperatively with staff, church members and guests Work effectively with contractors Manage safe work habits for self, congregational volunteers, and support contractors Comfortably work on ladders and have the requisite strength and flexibility to perform light to medium physical activities; e.g. facility, lawn, landscape maintenance; operation of small engine equipment; and ability to dead lift 50 pounds and lift 25 pounds overhead.
Education requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred Training or demonstrated skills in a trade such as carpentry, electricity, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, etc. preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel. Electronic files management, and email) Compensation and ministry support Compensation/benefits are set by SPRC in accordance with Messiah's Personnel Policy. Evaluation procedures will be in accordance with Messiah's Personnel Policy. Sponsorship (partial or whole funding) of continuing education will be considered on an individual basis upon the SPRC's receipt of a written request stating need and benefit to the church and its members. Working hours may be flexibly fulfilled through work in the office, attendance at church committee meetings, and weekend and evening activities required by the position.
