Forklift Driver - Concrete Block Plant Position Summary The Forklift Driver is responsible for safely operating a forklift in a concrete block manufacturing plant and yard. The primary responsibilities include moving finished concrete block from the production area, organizing and stacking cubes of block in designated yard locations, staging orders, and safely loading and unloading trucks. This position requires close attention to safety and product quality because concrete block can be heavy, unstable, and easily damaged if handled improperly. Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate forklifts used to move concrete block and other masonry products throughout the plant and yard. Pick up finished cubes/pallets of concrete block from the production or curing area and transport them to designated storage locations. Properly stack and organize concrete block in the yard according to block type, size, color, production date, or designated inventory location. Inspect cubes of block before moving them and watch for broken block, damaged pallets, loose bands, unstable loads, or other conditions that could create a safety hazard. Stage concrete block according to customer orders, shipping paperwork, or supervisor instructions. Load flatbed trucks, trailers, delivery trucks, and customer vehicles with the correct type and quantity of concrete block. Position loads properly on trucks and trailers to assist with safe weight distribution and secure transportation. Unload pallets, production materials, supplies, and returned products as required. Maintain safe clearance around block machines, conveyors, cubers, curing areas, trucks, pedestrians, and other forklifts. Follow established traffic patterns and forklift speed limits throughout the plant and block yard. Perform and document required pre-shift forklift inspections, including forks, mast, tires, hydraulics, brakes, steering, lights, horn, backup alarm, and fluid levels. Immediately report forklift damage, hydraulic leaks, mechanical problems, damaged block, unsafe loads, accidents, and other safety concerns to the supervisor. Keep forklift travel lanes, loading areas, storage areas, and the block yard clean and free of unnecessary obstructions. Assist production, shipping, inventory, and yard personnel when needed. Help maintain accurate inventory by placing products in their assigned locations and reporting damaged or incorrectly stored products. Follow all plant safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times. Perform other concrete block plant and yard duties as assigned. 1 Qualifications Previous forklift experience required or ability to successfully complete company forklift training and evaluation. Experience operating a forklift in a concrete block plant, masonry facility, precast plant, lumber yard, construction material yard, or similar heavy industrial environment preferred. Ability to safely handle heavy cubes and pallets of concrete block. Ability to judge load stability, clearance, stacking height, and safe forklift operating conditions. Ability to read basic production tags, shipping paperwork, inventory locations, and customer orders. Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively with production and shipping personnel. Must be able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing and outdoor yard environment. Physical and Work Environment Requirements This position requires regularly climbing on and off a forklift and may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting materials during the workday. Work is performed in an active concrete block manufacturing facility and outdoor storage yard. Employees may be exposed to cement and concrete dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, uneven surfaces, heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions. Required PPE may include steel-toe work boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, gloves, hard hat, and respiratory protection when required for specific tasks. Safety Expectations The Forklift Driver is responsible for operating equipment in a safe and controlled manner at all times. Extra care must be taken when transporting and stacking concrete block, operating near production equipment, working around pedestrians, and loading or unloading trucks. The employee must never operate a forklift with an unsafe or unstable load and must immediately report damaged equipment, unsafe block cubes, broken pallets, spills, accidents, near misses, and other hazardous conditions.
