Forklift Operator Start, Inc. - 4.9 Hamtramck, MI Job Details Full-time $20 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Life insurance Qualifications Lifting equipment Computer literacy Basic math Forklift High school diploma or GED Driver's License Driving Industrial equipment Materials handling Hi-Lo Material handling equipment operation Full Job Description Operate powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate forklift to transport a variety of parts and materials from one department to another, or from one work station to another.
  • Ensure that loads are stacked properly for safe transportation, pick up load - holding load as closely to the ground as conditions permit - and position load safely and carefully at designated drop-off point.
  • Check oil level, battery, and make other routine checks of vehicle daily. Change tanks of propane gas as required. Report any equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including pulling and stocking parts, stock control, preparation for new work, dumping scrap, removing unnecessary items from floor, etc.
  • Position forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hook tow trucks to trailer hitch and transport load to designated area.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and safe orderly condition.
  • Wear all personal protective equipment as required.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work process, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and assist in its implementation on an ongoing basis
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an internal hilo driving and written test.
  • Clean driving record and a valid state motor vehicle operator's license required.
  • One year of experience driving a hilo.
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to others; promote a safe work environment.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Good math, language and reading skills; basic computer skills may be required
  • Ability to make arithmetical computations (additions, subtraction, division, multiplication).
  • Ability to use calipers and measuring tools.
  • Must frequently use hand(s) for repetitive movement single grasping, pushing and pulling, and occasionally fine manipulations.
  • Must frequently use foot/feet for repetitive movement as in operating foot control.
  • Must bend and reach frequently, and occasionally twist and squat.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending up season.
Pay:
$20.00 per hour
