Job Description

Job Title:
Forklift Operator Job Description This full-time Forklift Operator role is based in a fast-paced building materials distribution center in Wilsonville, OR. You will play a critical role in preparing customer orders for delivery by safely loading and securing a wide variety of building materials onto delivery trucks. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM, with overtime opportunities as business needs require. This is a physically demanding position that requires comfort with frequent lifting, carrying, and handling oversized and irregularly shaped products while operating powered industrial equipment and using warehouse technology. Responsibilities Load customer orders onto delivery trucks according to established route sequence and delivery schedules. Determine proper loading configurations to maximize trailer space while protecting products from damage during transit. Safely secure materials using straps, wrapping, and other appropriate load securement methods. Operate forklifts, combilifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to transport, stage, and organize products. Verify materials, quantities, and product quality before loading to ensure accurate and damage-free shipments. Handle a wide range of building materials including lumber, sheet goods, decking, trim, doors, posts, and other construction products. Replenish inventory and stage materials for future loads to support efficient shipping operations. Assist with dock organization, housekeeping, and maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work environment. Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and equipment operation guidelines. Support general warehouse operations and perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs. Work independently to stage, verify, and load customer orders while meeting safety, accuracy, and productivity standards. Collaborate with team members and demonstrate a team-first attitude by assisting with housekeeping, dock organization, and inventory tasks as required. Essential Skills Ability to perform physically demanding work in a distribution center environment, including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of oversized and irregularly shaped building materials. Comfortable frequently lifting and moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting and moving up to 100 pounds with assistance. Capability to safely handle long, bulky, and irregularly shaped building products throughout the shift. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and carry materials for extended periods in a warehouse and loading dock environment. Proven forklift operating experience, preferably handling oversized, awkward, and irregularly shaped building materials such as lumber, decking, sheet goods, trim, and posts. Experience safely loading, unloading, staging, and securing non-standard loads while maintaining product quality, operational efficiency, and workplace safety. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high levels of productivity and accuracy. Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to quality and safety. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with frequent material and equipment movement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience utilizing RF scanners, inventory systems, and warehouse technology to support shipping and inventory operations is preferred. Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution center, lumber yard, or building materials environment is a plus. Forklift experience is preferred; training may be provided for qualified candidates without formal certification. Comfort working around frequent forklift and trailer traffic in a moderate to loud warehouse setting. General labor experience in material handling, loading, and dock operations is beneficial. Work Environment The role is based in a fast-paced building materials distribution center with a moderate to loud warehouse environment. You will work primarily on the warehouse floor and loading dock, with frequent forklift and trailer traffic and ongoing movement of lumber, sheet goods, decking, trim, doors, posts, and other construction products. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM, with full-time hours and overtime opportunities as business needs require. The work involves regular standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying materials throughout the shift, as well as frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements to maintain a safe and orderly work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
