Full-Time Position Summary The General Manager is the senior onsite leader responsible for the effective operation of the company's physical facility and workforce. The position oversees building and facility operations, maintenance and infrastructure, workplace safety, staffing coordination, and day-to-day workforce management. The General Manager ensures that the facility, equipment, physical resources, and workforce are appropriately maintained, organized, and deployed to support business operations. This position works closely with department managers and executive leadership to identify operational constraints, coordinate staffing and facility resources, maintain workplace standards, and ensure the organization can operate safely and effectively. The General Manager does not serve as the technical authority for specialized operation functions but is responsible for ensuring that the physical environment and workforce infrastructure necessary to support those functions are effectively managed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Physical & Building Operations Maintain overall responsibility for the condition, functionality, organization, and operational readiness of the facility. Conduct regular walkthroughs and inspections to identify building, equipment, maintenance, safety, housekeeping, and operational concerns. Coordinate the use of physical space, work areas, storage areas, common areas, and other facility resources. Identify infrastructure deficiencies and coordinate repairs, improvements, or corrective action. Oversee building systems and physical infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems, doors, gates, lighting, and other facility components. Coordinate construction, renovation, installation, repair, and facility improvement projects. Maintain appropriate standards for cleanliness, organization, accessibility, and physical condition throughout the facility. Respond to facility emergencies and operational disruptions and coordinate resources necessary to restore normal operations. Facilities & Maintenance Provide leadership and direction to facilities, maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, electrical, and other assigned facility-support functions. Establish priorities for preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, repairs, and facility projects. Ensure machinery, equipment, tools, and building systems are appropriately inspected, maintained, serviced, and repaired. Monitor equipment downtime and recurring maintenance issues and ensure appropriate corrective action. Coordinate contractors, vendors, technicians, and service providers performing work at the facility. Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented and completed within established priorities. Evaluate equipment and infrastructure needs and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, or capital improvement. Coordinate maintenance activities with department managers to minimize unnecessary operational disruption. Workplace Safety Provide visible onsite leadership regarding workplace safety and safe operating practices. Conduct regular facility observations to identify unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, blocked access, housekeeping concerns, PPE deficiencies, and other workplace hazards. Ensure identified hazards are promptly corrected, isolated, or escalated as appropriate. Reinforce compliance with established safety procedures and expectations. Coordinate with Human Resources and other responsible functions regarding workplace injuries, incidents, investigations, and corrective actions. Participate in emergency preparedness, evacuation planning, drills, and incident response. Ensure appropriate access to emergency exits, fire equipment, first-aid resources, and other required safety infrastructure. Ensure contractors and vendors follow applicable facility safety requirements while onsite. Support required safety training and ensure managers reinforce safe work practices within their departments. Exercise authority to stop or suspend work when an immediate safety concern warrants intervention. Workforce Management & Staffing Maintain oversight of facility-wide staffing levels and workforce deployment in coordination with department managers. Monitor attendance, staffing shortages, scheduling gaps, overtime, and other workforce conditions that may affect operations. Work with department managers to ensure staffing levels appropriately support operational requirements. Coordinate temporary reassignment or deployment of available personnel when necessary to address legitimate operational needs. Review staffing requests and identify opportunities to resolve workforce needs through scheduling, reassignment, or other available resources before additional headcount is requested. Ensure managers appropriately manage employee schedules, attendance, timekeeping, meal and rest periods, and overtime. Monitor workforce utilization and identify departments experiencing persistent understaffing, excessive overtime, scheduling inefficiencies, or other staffing concerns. Coordinate with Human Resources regarding recruiting needs, employee relations matters, performance management, leaves, accommodations, corrective action, and other matters requiring HR involvement. Participate in workforce planning and provide executive leadership with recommendations concerning staffing levels and operational labor needs. Management & Accountability Provide direction and support to assigned managers, supervisors, and operational personnel. Establish clear expectations regarding attendance, productivity, safety, communication, housekeeping, and workplace conduct. Hold managers accountable for staffing, scheduling, facility condition, safety, and execution within their assigned areas. Conduct regular meetings and operational walkthroughs with department leadership. Identify issues requiring cross-departmental coordination and ensure responsible parties are assigned and held accountable for resolution. Escalate significant safety, staffing, facility, personnel, or operational risks to executive leadership. Participate in hiring, coaching, performance management, disciplinary recommendations, and other management decisions in coordination with Human Resources. Ensure company policies and management expectations are applied consistently throughout assigned operations. Scope of Authority The General Manager is authorized to establish day-to-day facility priorities, direct assigned personnel, coordinate workforce deployment, establish maintenance priorities, address unsafe conditions, and take reasonable action necessary to maintain safe and effective facility operations. The General Manager is expected to exercise substantial independent judgment while recognizing the specialized authority of Human Resources, Compliance, Finance, and technical production leadership within their respective areas. Qualifications Significant management experience in facilities, manufacturing, warehousing, industrial operations, construction, or a comparable physical operating environment. Demonstrated experience managing a sizable hourly workforce and multiple supervisors or department managers. Experience with workforce scheduling, staffing allocation, attendance management, and labor utilization. Working knowledge of facility maintenance, mechanical equipment, building systems, and preventive maintenance practices. Demonstrated understanding of workplace safety principles and hazard identification. Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, maintenance personnel, and facility projects. Strong organizational, prioritization, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced operating environment. Ability to communicate effectively with frontline employees, managers, technical personnel, vendors, Human Resources, and executive leadership. Physical & Work Environment Requirements This is an onsite, facility-based leadership position requiring regular presence throughout the workplace. The position requires frequent walking and inspection of work areas, mechanical and maintenance areas, warehouses, common areas, exterior areas, and other portions of the facility. The employee may regularly work around machinery, industrial equipment, noise, odors, dust, temperature fluctuations, and other conditions typical of an active production environment. The position may require standing and walking for extended periods and occasional climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, or accessing equipment and mechanical areas. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn where required. Reasonable accommodations will be provided consistent with applicable law.
Pay:
$90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
