Director of Development

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development

•Major Gifts & Grants is responsible for expanding financial support for American Rescue Workers (ARW) through grant development, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and strategic donor relationships. This position identifies and pursues funding opportunities, develops compelling proposals and solicitations, manages grant and donor pipelines, maintains relationships with funders and major supporters, and ensures appropriate reporting, stewardship, and compliance. The Director works closely with the Executive Director, Finance Department, program leadership, and other staff to align fundraising efforts with ARW's mission, programs, operational needs, and strategic priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Development & Management:

 Research and identify foundation, corporate, government, community, and other grant opportunities aligned with ARW's priorities.  Maintain an active grant pipeline and 12-month calendar of application, reporting, and renewal deadlines.  Prepare and submit grant applications, letters of inquiry, proposals, narratives, budgets, and supporting materials.  Coordinate with program and Finance staff to gather accurate program, outcome, statistical, and financial information.  Manage awarded grants, including documentation, requirements, deliverables, reporting, renewals, and compliance.  Maintain organized grant records and current organizational materials needed for funding applications.  Evaluate grant opportunities and recommend funding priorities to the Executive Director.

Major Gifts & Donor Development:

 Identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective and existing major donors.  Develop and maintain an active portfolio and pipeline of major gift prospects.  Create individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for priority donors.  Conduct donor outreach through meetings, calls, correspondence, tours, presentations, and other relationship-building activities.  Make appropriate financial asks for major gifts, program support, capital needs, and other organizational priorities.  Identify opportunities to renew, increase, and expand existing donor relationships.  Develop stewardship strategies that keep donors thanked, informed, recognized, and connected to ARW's mission.

Corporate Sponsorships & Community Partnerships:

 Identify and cultivate businesses, corporations, and community organizations with the potential to support ARW.  Develop corporate sponsorships and partnerships involving financial contributions, employee giving, in-kind donations, donation drives, volunteerism, events, programs, equipment, and other organizational needs.  Prepare customized sponsorship proposals, presentations, and partnership opportunities.  Build and maintain long-term relationships with corporate and community partners.

Fundraising Administration & Accountability:

 Maintain accurate records of grant opportunities, donors, prospects, contacts, proposals, solicitations, awards, contributions, deadlines, and next steps.  Track fundraising activity and results, including dollars requested, dollars secured, applications submitted, major gift solicitations, sponsorships, and pending opportunities.  Provide regular reports to the Executive Director regarding progress, upcoming priorities, significant opportunities, concerns, and recommended next steps.  Evaluate fundraising performance and focus organizational efforts on opportunities with the strongest potential for success.

Internal Collaboration:

 Work with the Executive Director to establish fundraising priorities and goals.  Collaborate with Finance and program leadership to ensure fundraising proposals accurately reflect organizational needs, budgets, programs, and outcomes.  Communicate funding requirements, restrictions, commitments, and reporting expectations to appropriate staff.  Coordinate donor and funder meetings, tours, presentations, and other engagement opportunities with ARW leadership and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

 Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, finance, public administration, marketing, communications, English, or a related field preferred.  Experience in grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit development, major gifts, donor relations, or related professional work strongly preferred.  Demonstrated success in grant writing or fundraising preferred.  Equivalent combinations of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Strong research, analytical, proofreading, and editing abilities.  Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.  Ability to develop persuasive proposals and effectively communicate organizational needs and impact.  Ability to understand basic financial information, budgets, and grant requirements.  Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with donors, funders, businesses, community partners, staff, and leadership.  Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office, donor management systems, online grant portals, cloud-based systems, and related technology.  Ability to maintain accurate records, exercise discretion, and protect confidential information.
