Quality Inspector / CMM Inspector Job Responsibilities Read part drawings, specifications, and work instructions to understand quality expectations for parts and materials. Approve or reject incoming raw materials based on established quality standards. Record and track supplier performance. Perform incoming inspections on parts received from vendors and suppliers. Provide feedback to management regarding the quality of inspected materials. Set up and use a variety of precision measurement instruments. Work from inspection checklists and production work instructions. Maintain detailed and accurate inspection records. Develop, program, and optimize Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection routines. Lead First Article Inspections (FAI) and support compliance with applicable quality standards, including
ISO 9001.
Set up parts and fixtures for accurate CMM measurement. Interpret engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to verify part conformance. Review and validate inspection results and reports. Identify and document nonconforming materials or parts and notify appropriate personnel of potential rejection. Support troubleshooting of CMM programs, probing issues, and measurement concerns. Lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gage R&R activities. Follow established quality procedures, inspection plans, and testing requirements. Troubleshoot measurement issues, program errors, and sources of variation. Analyze inspection data and support root cause analysis and corrective action activities. Collaborate with engineering teams on design-for-measurement and tolerance analysis. Serve as a technical resource for dimensional inspection and metrology. Select product samples and evaluate them using appropriate inspection methods, including dimensional measurement, functional testing, and comparison to specifications. Maintain records of testing results, inspection data, and quality metrics such as defect rates. Prepare and submit inspection and quality reports to quality leadership. Review and inspect parts from production, engineering, and suppliers as required. Follow established safety practices, policies, and procedures for the safe performance of daily activities. Continuously evaluate processes and recommend improvements in efficiency, quality, and safety. Perform other related duties as assigned based on evolving business and operational needs. Required Qualifications Knowledge of measuring devices and test equipment used to inspect and test parts and subassemblies. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to calculate dimensions, angles, radii, and other specifications from engineering drawings. Working knowledge of production processes and product requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to contribute effectively within a team-oriented environment. Willingness to cross-train and support different products or production areas as needed. Previous experience as a Quality Inspector or in a similar quality-focused role. Strong attention to detail and a results-oriented approach. Dependable and trustworthy. Familiarity with quality testing equipment, machines, and systems. Strong knowledge of quality control standards and testing methodologies. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs. Preferred Qualifications Quality control certification is strongly preferred. Familiarity with ISO 9000-series quality standards is a plus. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work is primarily performed in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments. Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
