Intermediate Job Description Join Hilo Benioff Medical Center and be part of a team that proudly cares for our friends, family, and neighbors across East Hawaiʻi. The Materials Management Specialist V provides leadership and oversight of Central Supply operations supporting Hilo Benioff Medical Center, Honoka'a Hospital, Ka'u Hospital, and East Hawaii Health Clinics. This position manages inventory planning, receiving, storage, distribution, and replenishment activities while overseeing staff, maintaining inventory data integrity, and implementing strategies to improve supply availability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and manage Central Supply operations, including staff recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, departmental goals, policies, and operational standards.
Oversee receiving, warehousing, inventory control, distribution, replenishment, cycle counting, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation activities.
Establish appropriate inventory levels using utilization data and demand forecasting while monitoring stockouts, backorders, obsolete inventory, product recalls, expiration dates, and supply availability.
Administer electronic inventory management systems, maintain item master data and inventory records, and develop reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support inventory and operational decision-making.
Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, Pharmacy, clinical and administrative departments, Information Technology, corporate teams, and vendors to resolve supply issues, standardize products, optimize inventory, and support uninterrupted patient care.
Lead process improvement and supply chain initiatives, including Lean or other quality improvement methodologies, emergency preparedness planning, system enhancements, and implementation of strategies to improve efficiency and reduce supply costs.
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Qualifying progressively responsible administrative, professional, analytical, or other work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis when it provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience:
Minimum of 3½ years of progressively responsible materials management or purchasing experience involving collaboration with users and vendors to identify, clarify, and specify requirements for products, materials, equipment, or services.
Hospital Experience:
At least 1 year of the required specialized experience must be in a hospital setting.
Supervisory Aptitude:
Applicants must demonstrate supervisory aptitude through prior team leadership, supervisory responsibilities, relevant training and application of supervisory skills, or other experience demonstrating supervisory potential.
Certification:
None required.
Licensure:
None required.
Additional Skills:
Strong knowledge of inventory management, supply chain operations, inventory systems and data management, forecasting, process improvement, and supply cost optimization. Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.
