Job Title:
Laborer Job Description The Laborer supports daily warehouse operations by safely preparing metal materials for shipment and unloading, following OSHA regulations and established procedures. This role focuses on securing and unsecuring metal products, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and using basic tools and equipment to handle inbound and outbound freight. Responsibilities Ensure safe working conditions at all times and follow all OSHA regulations in the performance of every job function. Perform duties as assigned by leadership within the warehouse and terminal operations. Secure and unsecure all metal materials received and shipped, including bars, coils, bar rods, sheets, plates, and other product forms. Block and brace metal products using proper procedures to prevent movement or damage during transport. Use an oil drum sprayer to oil bar stock materials as needed. Cut inbound seals on container doors using bolt cutters in a safe and controlled manner. Cut all metal banding from inbound metal materials on Load Roll Pallets (LRPs) and remove it carefully to avoid damage to the product. Dispose of all metal banding in designated dumpsters from ground level in accordance with facility procedures. Loosen chains and nylon straps from LRPs, remove them, and store all supplies properly after use. Remove any bulkheads from containers and prepare them for eastbound return. Place all chains and binders into the assigned LRPC (coil LRP) after unloading. Sweep out empty containers to maintain cleanliness and readiness for the next load. Notify a supervisor immediately of any incidents, accidents, damages, claims, mechanical problems, or material issues. Keep warehouse floors and the facility yard clean, organized, and safe at all times. Wear all required safety attire, including steel-toed boots, gloves, long-sleeved shirts, full-length cotton pants, safety glasses, and any other assigned protective equipment, ensuring it is in good repair and used in accordance with OSHA regulations and company policy. Perform all other duties and projects as assigned in support of warehouse and logistics operations. Essential Skills Ability to follow OSHA regulations and safety procedures consistently. Ability to perform general labor tasks in a warehouse and logistics environment. Ability to safely load and unload trucks and containers. Ability to secure and unsecure metal products such as bars, coils, bar rods, sheets, plates, and similar materials. Basic data entry skills to support logistics and shipping documentation. Ability to multitask and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge and ability to work with hand tools, chains, metal binders, and power saws used to cut wood. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity or experience with logistics, metal, transportation, intermodal, and warehousing industries preferred. Comfort working with metal products and related handling equipment. Attention to detail when securing loads and inspecting materials. Strong communication skills to report issues and coordinate with supervisors and team members. Reliability and punctuality to support consistent warehouse operations. Why Work Here? The position routinely uses forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials, as well as standard office equipment such as phones, photocopiers, fax machines, and file cabinets for basic administrative tasks. The dress code requires appropriate safety attire, including steel-toed boots, gloves, long-sleeved shirts, full-length cotton pants, safety glasses, and any additional personal protective equipment assigned, all to be worn in accordance with safety regulations and company policy. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Montebello, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
