Job Summary The Shipping Specialist is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, movement, staging, loading, and unloading of fish meal, fish oil, finished products, raw materials, and other materials within the facility and shipping areas. This position performs material-handling and shipping functions while operating forklifts and other heavy equipment to support daily production, warehouse, and logistics operations. Duties Operate forklifts and other powered material-handling equipment to safely transport fish meal, fish oil, finished products, raw materials, pallets, containers, and supplies. Load and unload trucks, trailers, shipping containers, totes, bulk containers, and other transportation equipment. Safely handle and move bulk fish meal and fish oil products while following established handling and storage procedures. Stage finished products and materials for shipment according to shipping schedules, customer requirements, and production needs. Verify product identification, quantities, lot numbers, labels, and shipping documentation prior to shipment. Assist with receiving, unloading, inspecting, and properly storing incoming materials and supplies. Transfer materials between production, storage, warehouse, and shipping areas using appropriate equipment. Maintain accurate inventory and report damaged, missing, or incorrectly identified products and materials. Monitor and maintain organized shipping docks, warehouse areas, storage locations, and material-handling areas. Perform pre-operation inspections of forklifts and other equipment and report mechanical or safety concerns promptly. Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, food-safety standards, environmental regulations, and applicable OSHA requirements. Maintain awareness of hazards associated with heavy equipment, bulk materials, fish meal, fish oil, vehicle traffic, loading docks, and industrial work areas. Communicate effectively with shipping, receiving, production, warehouse, maintenance, and logistics personnel to coordinate the movement of materials and products. Assist with maintaining clean and safe work areas and promptly address spills, debris, or other workplace hazards in accordance with company procedures. Perform additional warehouse, shipping, material-handling, and logistics duties as assigned. Requirements Previous experience in shipping, logistics, warehousing, material handling, or a related industrial environment preferred. Experience operating forklifts or other heavy equipment preferred. Ability to safely lift, move, stage, and handle materials and products. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety procedures. Ability to accurately complete shipping, receiving, inventory, and product documentation. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial environment. Forklift certification or willingness to obtain required equipment certifications. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and work for extended periods. Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and material-handling machinery. Ability to handle materials associated with shipping, receiving, and storage operations. Ability to work in industrial environment and wear required personal protective equipment. Equipment The position will require operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, loaders, and other powered or heavy material-handling equipment used for the movement of bulk products and materials. Work Environment This position operates in an industrial shipping and logistics environment and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, fish meal and fish oil products, odors, dust, wet or slippery surfaces, heavy equipment, moving vehicles, and loading docks.
