Subcontracting Coordinator

Job Description

We are seeking a Subcontracting Coordinator to work on-site at our Kingsford, MI or Rhinelander, WI location. The Subcontracting Coordinator will be responsible for managing and optimizing the company's external manufacturing capacity. This position identifies opportunities to outsource work, develops and maintains qualified subcontractor resources, coordinates the movement of work to and from suppliers, and ensures outsourced work is completed on time, at the required quality, and at competitive cost. The Subcontract Coordinator works closely with Production, Planning, Engineering, and Quality, to proactively address capacity constraints and prevent production schedule disruptions.
MAJOR DUTIES
Manage and oversee subcontracting activities for outsourced manufacturing, machining, fabrication, finishing, assembly, and other external services.

Identify outsourcing opportunities based on internal capacity constraints, production schedules, workload, equipment availability, lead times, and customer requirements.

Develop and maintain an outsourcing pipeline to ensure work is identified early enough to prevent production delays and schedule impacts.

Coordinate with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing to determine which jobs and processes should be outsourced and establish priorities.

Evaluate supplier capacity and capabilities to ensure subcontractors can support current and future production requirements.

Solicit, negotiate, and evaluate supplier quotes, including pricing, lead time, capacity, capabilities, quality requirements, and delivery commitments.

Select and manage subcontractors based on cost, quality, delivery performance, capacity, technical capability, and overall supplier performance.

Issue and manage purchase orders/subcontracts for outsourced work and ensure requirements, specifications, drawings, quality requirements, and delivery dates are clearly communicated.

Monitor outsourced work from order placement through completion, maintaining visibility of material readiness, supplier status, scheduled completion dates, and expected return dates.

Develop recovery plans for late or at-risk outsourced work and proactively communicate schedule risks to internal stakeholders.

Travel to meet vendors is requiredOther duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in business or related field.5 years' experience in a purchasing/materials department within a manufacturing organization.

Experienced in purchasing high value components.

Experienced in Microsoft Office software.

Physical RequirementsPosition requires extended periods of sitting and computer use.
