Materials & Layout Coordinator Metal Fabrication (Well Train You on CAD)

Job Description

Know your way around a fab shop? Read drawings all day and know your materials cold? This is a move off the floor that keeps you in fabrication — and we'll teach you the software. The job, in plain terms You're the link between our engineers, our purchasing department, and the shop. When drawings are approved, you turn them into everything the shop and purchasing need to build the job: bills of material, cut sheets, and CNC files. You decide the smartest way to get parts out of material, and you keep several jobs moving at once so the shop never waits on paper. What you'll actually do Build bills of material (BOMs) from engineering drawings — fasteners, pipe, flanges, plate, gaskets, and finishes. Lay out parts for the best material usage — fewer drops, less waste.
Call the make-or-buy:
what we fabricate in-house vs. what we order from a vendor. Create cut sheets, layouts, and flat patterns for our shop and field crews, and get them printed and into the right hands. Generate DXF files for our CNC cutting tables from 3D models (this is the part we train). Let purchasing and engineering know the moment BOMs, cut sheets, and DXFs are released. Juggle multiple projects to protect the production schedule, and keep our Kanban board current. You're a fit if you Read fabrication or engineering drawings comfortably — this is the core of the job.
Know common materials and hardware:
plate, pipe, flanges, fasteners, carbon vs. stainless. Understand how metal parts get made — cutting, bending, welding. Are solid with Excel, Outlook, and Word. Stay organized under pressure and can run multiple jobs at once without dropping one. We'll train you on 2D and 3D CAD, including pulling flat patterns from 3D models. Creating DXFs for CNC cutting. Our systems and workflow, including the Kanban board. If you've got the shop knowledge, we'll teach you the software. Any CAD, drafting coursework, or nesting-software experience is a plus — not a requirement. No degree required. Who we are Gilbert Industries designs and builds custom steel tanks, ASME pressure vessels, and prefabricated piping systems for customers nationwide — oil & gas, chemical, food & beverage, agriculture, and pharma. We've been at it for decades, we build to ASME, API, AWWA, NFPA, and UL standards, and we do it all from Sparta, Missouri. If you live in Ozark, Rogersville, or Marshfield, this is the easy direction to drive. Pay, schedule, and benefits Starting at $22/hr — and that's the floor, not the offer. Fabrication experience, drawing-reading, and materials knowledge move the number up. Full-time, Monday-Friday day shift. Office role inside a working fab shop.
