Full-Time (40hrs/week) The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI Richland County, established in July 2001, is the local affiliate of the NAMI organization, serving families and individuals through education, support, and advocacy.

We fight for equity and justice. Overview The Executive Director serves as the visionary leader and chief administrator of NAMI Richland County. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the organization's financial health, strategic growth, and the successful delivery of mental health support and advocacy programs. This role requires a sophisticated blend of fiscal management, community partnership development, and compassionate team leadership. This position requires a balance of high-level strategy, fiscal rigor, and grassroots community engagement. Candidates must successfully complete all required background clearances and possess a valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and lived experience with mental health. This position offers flexibility, a positive work culture, and a supportive learning environment. Job Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Board Governance
  • Lead the development and execution of long-term strategic plans to expand NAMI's impact in Richland County
  • Prepare all materials for monthly Board of Directors meetings, providing transparent updates on organizational health, financial position, and program efficacy.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the staff and Board, ensuring alignment on mission and policy. Fiscal Management & Revenue Development
  • Research, write, and submit grant requests and foundational proposals. Manage complex Request for Proposals, including those for Job and Family Services funding.
  • Develop and present annual budget requests and reports to the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board.
  • Monitor all budgets, provide detailed financial reporting, and ensure the organization operates with high fiscal integrity.
  • Oversee all diversified fundraising efforts, including the annual NAMIWalks Richland County event, sponsorship recruitment, and donor cultivation.
  • Maintain organizational insurance policies and ensure compliance with state and federal workplace regulations.
  • Execute full-cycle internal payroll, including the calculation and filing of all local, state, and federal payroll taxes.
  • Collaborate directly with a CPA to ensure the timely filing of the IRS Form 990 to maintain the organization's 501(c)(3) non-profit status in good standing.
  • Manage all organizational tax responsibilities, including state unemployment insurance and workers' compensation filings.
  • Maintain impeccable financial records and internal controls, ensuring the organization is prepared for external audits or ADAMHS board financial reviews at any time. Program Oversight & Community Action
  • Maintain and facilitate the Crisis Intervention Team training program in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and first responders.
  • Continue providing governance of the AOT Advisory and CIT Advisory Committees.
  • Provide individualized program presentations with requested by community organizations.
  • Monitor the fidelity and outcomes of all adult, youth, and care navigation programs.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with community stakeholders, healthcare providers, and government agencies to ensure a seamless circle of support for residents.
  • Maintain organizational technology infrastructure, including software licensing, cybersecurity protocols, and hardware inventory.
  • Attend leadership and community engagement meetings (NAMI National Executive Director meetings, County Executive Director meetings, coalition meetings, and other assignments).
  • Monitoring and evaluation of Community Health Worker (CHW) programs, ensuring compliance with state certification standards, grant deliverables and scope-of-practice guidelines
  • Monitor CHW documentation, client care plans, referral pathways, and interventions to guarantee high-quality, culturally competent service delivery. Team Leadership & Personnel
  • Directly supervise a multidisciplinary team of eight, including the Adult Program Coordinator, Youth Program Coordinator, Care Navigator, Marketing & Volunteer Coordinator, and student interns/practicum placements.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing office culture rooted in NAMI's core values.
  • Manage HR functions, including hiring, firing, professional development, and performance evaluations.
  • Direct the full lifecycle of personnel administration from recruitment, onboarding, background clearances, and the maintenance of confidential personnel files to offboarding and exit interviews.
  • Maintain and update the Employee Handbook, Policies and Procedures, and ensure alignment with current labor laws and organizational culture.
  • Oversee the student practicum and internship programs to ensure high-quality learning experiences for future mental health professionals. Operations & Facilities Management
  • Manage all aspects of building maintenance, including coordinating with vendors for repairs, cleaning services, and long-term capital improvements.
  • Oversee the purchasing of all office supplies, program materials, and hospitality items to ensure the team has the resources needed to function efficiently.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for IT support, equipment leasing, and general office workflow to ensure a professional and welcoming environment for visitors and staff.
  • Ensure the facility meets all safety standards and insurance requirements, maintaining a space that is both functional and compliant. Requirements
  • Experience and knowledge, personal and/or professional, about working with individuals and families affected by mental illness.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds, occasionally.
  • Must be able to display integrity, model behavior, develop people and build teams.
  • Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be goal-oriented, flexible, and adaptable to potential unanticipated opportunities.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Possess strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking, including effective presentation skills and problems solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and provide leadership support as required for special events.
  • Must abide by all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements and set standards.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout service area, requiring use of a personal vehicle/own transportation with a current driver's license, insurance, and registration.
  • Fluency with MS Office (PPT, Word, Excel, Teams), CANVA, and other platforms. Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred in Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience, preferably within a mental health or social services non-profit environment.
  • Exceptional public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record in managing complex budgets, public grants, and diverse revenue streams with experience in non-profit fundraising preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of professionals and student interns with an emphasis on mentorship and accountability with demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver's License and pass a complete background check. Benefits
