"In light of the Scripture and in Christian charity the food pantry provides food and financial assistance to those in need while honoring the dignity of all people." Position Summary The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of the Salem/Roanoke County Food Pantry. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to advance the Pantry's mission of providing quality emergency food supplies to individuals and families in need throughout Salem, Vinton, and Roanoke County. As a faith-based organization, we seek an Executive Director who respects and embraces our Christian mission and values and is committed to carrying out our work in a manner consistent with our organization's faith-based purpose. Key Responsibilities Pantry Operations Oversee all aspects of the Food Pantry's daily operations. Maintain appropriate food supplies and inventory. Ensure all required documentation and reporting is completed, including USDA reporting. Develop and maintain organizational policies and procedures. Ensure the Pantry operates in accordance with Board-approved policies and objectives. Program Development & Strategic Planning Develop strategies, plans, and programs that support the Pantry's mission. Coordinate the implementation of Board-approved programs and initiatives. Identify opportunities for improvement and develop solutions to operational challenges. Provide strategic and tactical recommendations to the Board of Directors. Grants & Fundraising Research and identify grant opportunities at the local, state, and national levels. Prepare and submit grant applications to government agencies, corporations, and foundations. Coordinate and participate in fundraising and networking activities. Cultivate relationships with major donors and community supporters. Community Relations & Partnerships Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with businesses, churches, civic organizations, nonprofits, and other community groups. Represent the Food Pantry at community meetings, networking events, and speaking engagements. Promote the Pantry's mission and programs throughout the community. Develop new partnerships and opportunities to support the Pantry's programs and services. Board & Organizational Management Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors regarding programs, operations, opportunities, and challenges. Keep the Board informed of significant issues that could affect the Pantry's ability to fulfill its mission. Develop and manage the annual budget. Manage vendor relationships. Maintain secure and accurate client and donor records. Supervise staff, including hiring, performance management, discipline, and termination when necessary. Administer and maintain personnel policies. Provide appropriate training for staff and volunteers and maintain training materials. Communications & Outreach Manage and maintain the Pantry's social media presence, including Facebook and Instagram. Maintain newsletters and communications for the Board and volunteers. Maintain accurate donor lists and records. Promote Pantry programs, events, and community initiatives. Building & Fleet Management Oversee maintenance of the Pantry's building and grounds. Coordinate maintenance of HVAC systems, freezers, refrigerators, and other equipment. Ensure appropriate cleaning and preventative maintenance is completed. Maintain the Pantry's fleet, including inspections, oil changes, licensing, and other required maintenance. Community Events Coordinate and participate in fundraising, food-support, and networking events, which may include: Salem After 5 Salem Half Marathon Postal Food Drive Salem Fair Trick or Treat So Others May Eat Holiday Market Craft Show Other community events and food-support activities Qualifications & Skills Qualified candidates should possess: An associate's degree or equivalent experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. The ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Grant writing and grant application experience or demonstrated ability. The ability to represent the Pantry professionally at networking events, community meetings, and speaking engagements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications. The ability to work independently and effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and the Board of Directors. A valid Virginia Driver's License in good standing. A commitment to serving individuals and families in the local community. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Ability to drive an E350 18-foot box truck. Schedule The Executive Director's core working hours are aligned with the Pantry's operating hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m . Additional hours are regularly required to support operational needs, special events, meetings, fundraising efforts, and community engagement activities.
