JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform a variety of duties, ability to identify, map and maintain all District-owned water distribution lines and infrastructure, wastewater collection lines and infrastructure, storm water lines and infrastructure including valves, hydrants, PRVs, manholes, stormwater drains, pumps, tanks and faucets.

SUMMARY:

This is a highly experienced, knowledgeable and skilled position that requires a vast understanding of the function, maintenance and repair of public distribution and collection systems. Position coordinates and oversees the installation of water/wastewater mainlines, service lines, fire hydrants, valves, storage tanks, manholes and related distribution and collection equipment. Position coordinates and oversees scheduled maintenance and repair of distribution/collection systems to ensure the function and safety of the systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the duties and activities of Utility Technician staff members in the daily maintenance and repair of the distribution and collection systems and equipment. Coordinate the identification and marking (paint) all sewer lines, manholes and water valves throughout the District's distribution and collection system. Coordinate the measurement of specific field locations for all sewer manholes, water valves and fire hydrants throughout the District's distribution and collection system; provide written measurements to the District's mapping contractor for the District's G.I.S. Identify the designed purpose (need) of each water valve and sewer manhole; provide written documentation to the District's mapping contractor for the District's G.I.S. Oversight of adherence to District Policies, Procedures and Standards pertaining to repair, replacement, new construction and new development within the district. Develop and maintain strong, positive working relationships with customers, residents, contractors and partners. Participate in Master Planning of water, sewer, treatment facilities, distribution, collection and stormwater systems. Assist BMMD management with identifying, prioritizing, researching and pricing Capital Improvement projects and equipment purchases. Maintain a copy of the most current mapping of the District's distribution and collection system; provide periodically updated copies to administration and water/wastewater departments. Coordinate with utility technician staff to ensure that all valves and fire hydrants are operational through scheduled periodic testing (openings and closings). Coordinate regular inspection and maintenance of valves, fire hydrants, pumps, pressure reducing valves, pump stations, water storage facilities, wastewater lift stations and manholes to insure items are in good working condition. Maintain an inventory of needed parts for repair or replacement of water and wastewater lines, valves, hydrants, meters, manholes, etc. Maintain an inventory of tools needed to repair or replace parts associated with the District's distribution and collection systems. Complete maintenance or cleaning requests in the water and wastewater plants as directed by the Water/Wastewater Operations Manager. Coordinate and assist with equipment operation and labor to repair broken or damaged water and wastewater lines, valves, hydrants, manholes and pumps as needed. Coordinate and assist hired contractors with jetting and televising of District's sewer mains, excavation of water and wastewater lines, valves, hydrants, and manholes. Coordinate the repair and replacement of individual water service lines and meters on residential and commercial customers connected to the District's water system. Coordinate the reading of meters in accordance with District policies so billings can be sent out on a timely basis. Assume assigned duties of utility technician staff when needed. Periodic reporting of project statuses and issues impacting the District to BMMD Manager and, upon request, the Board of Directors. Perform other duties as assigned by the Water/Wastewater Operations Manager or District Manager.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

Adheres to the Loss Control Standards (Safety) as approved by the Board of Directors.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(A) Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment. (B) Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid state driver's license. (C) Must be able to read and write English language. (D) Ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

(A) High School diploma or GED equivalent. (B) Eight years minimum experience in field of water and wastewater line installation, maintenance and repair and related equipment operation. (C) Five years minimum experience as an accomplished operator of backhoe, skid steer, tractor and dump truck. (D) State of Colorado Class 2 Certification for Distribution, Collection and ability to obtain Class D Water and Wastewater license. (E) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to attain in 6 months.

This position is a working Director position. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The odor levels at the water and wastewater plants can range from moderate to extreme. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

Pay:

$76,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
