Operations Manager

Job Description

The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient day-to-day manufacturing operations. This role focuses on managing production activities, overseeing purchasing and materials flow, improving operational efficiency, supporting quality control initiatives, and ensuring accurate and timely order fulfillment. The Operations Manager plays a hands-on leadership role and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
include but are not limited to: Operational Leadership Oversee daily operations including production scheduling, estimating, welding/assembly, painting, shipping, receiving, and materials management. Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment while monitoring Key Performance Indicators for efficiency, accuracy, and productivity. Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor to coach, support, and develop team members including developing and manager performance of supervisors and direct reports. Playing a key role in hiring strong performers. Responsible for the overall plant safety program including training, holding safety meetings, working with HR, committee members and outside consultant to remain compliant and implement safety improvements. Purchasing & Materials Management Oversee purchasing activities, ensuring timely procurement of parts, components, and supplies. Manage material flow to support efficient production, including stock levels, replenishment, and accurate inventory transactions. Monitor vendor performance and collaborate with procurement to maintain cost-effective and reliable supply. Ensure proper material handling practices, organization, and storage across the warehouse and production areas. Process & Quality Improvement Support the implementation and daily operation of MRP/ERP systems for purchasing, inventory, and production management. Assist with quality control processes and ensure adherence to customer requirements and internal standards. Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve workflow, enhance accuracy, and increase overall efficiency. Inventory & Supply Chain Support Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts, reconciliation, and MRP-driven planning. Analyze material usage trends and collaborate on forecasting activities. Ensure inventory accuracy and readiness to support current and future production demands. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with the Office Manager, Sales, and Ownership to support operational and purchasing requirements. Communicate production status, material delays, and process improvements across teams. Budget & Equipment Management Assist with departmental budgeting focused on labor, material costs, and operational efficiencies. Oversee proper maintenance, scheduling, and usage of equipment and facility resources.
Candidate Profile:
Key Qualifications 7+ years of experience in operations, materials management, manufacturing, or supply chain roles. Hands-on leadership experience in a production or assembly environment. Familiarity with purchasing, vendor management, and materials planning. Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (Steelhead, E2 preferred). Strong Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word and Excel. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational and inventory metrics. Effective communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred. Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Daily - standing, bending, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs. • Sitting for periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office environment with climate control and plant environment with limited-climate control to include heat but no A/C. Filtered air and frequent air flow from opening outside doors in the summer. Pay:
$110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
