JOB DESCRIPTION

The Packaging Specialist is responsible for accurately and safely preparing customer product for shipment in accordance with traveler instructions, customer requirements, and company standards. This position verifies order information, performs accurate count and weight-counting activities, selects and applies appropriate packaging, protects product from damage, and ensures finished orders are properly identified, labeled, and ready for shipment. The Packaging Specialist prioritizes packaging work based on operational needs, communicates discrepancies or concerns to the appropriate team members, updates traveler status in Business Central when packaging is complete, and maintains organized and adequately stocked packaging areas. When packaging demand allows, this position supports basic material handling and warehouse activities as needed. Essential Functions Review traveler instructions and order information prior to packaging to verify part identification, quantities, packaging requirements, and other applicable order details. Accurately count product using direct counting, weight counting, or other approved methods and verify container and package quantities before shipment. Package customer product in accordance with traveler instructions, customer requirements, and established packaging standards to protect product quality and minimize the risk of damage during storage, handling, and transportation. Perform packaging activities including filling, wrapping, stacking, labeling, banding, tying, packing, and other required methods using appropriate packaging materials and equipment. Properly identify and label packaged product, containers, skids, and other shipping units to ensure accurate order identification and shipment readiness. Operate packaging equipment, including wrapping and banding equipment, safely and effectively. Verify completed packaging against traveler and order information and communicate discrepancies, shortages, identification concerns, packaging issues, or other exceptions to the appropriate team members before the order proceeds. Prioritize packaging work based on shipping requirements, customer needs, and direction from leadership to support timely shipment of customer orders. Update traveler status in company system when packaging activities are complete and the order is ready to proceed through the shipping process. Inventory customer-owned and other designated packaging containers and materials to maintain appropriate safety-stock levels and communicate replenishment needs when required. Maintain packaging areas, equipment, supplies, and materials in a clean, safe, organized, and orderly condition. Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as authorized and complete required pre-use inspections. Move, stage, load, unload, and organize product or containers as needed to support packaging and basic material handling activities. Assist with general material handling and warehouse responsibilities when packaging workload permits. Handle customer product carefully throughout the packaging and material handling process to prevent damage, loss, or incorrect shipment. Follow all company safety requirements, material handling procedures, and applicable OSHA standards. Work Environment This position operates primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the Packaging Specialist is regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment, material handling equipment, and typical manufacturing conditions. The position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety footwear, and other PPE as required. Noise levels may vary throughout the facility. Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, and perform repetitive movements Frequently required to handle, move, position, and package customer product and packaging materials Frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques Regularly required to communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment Regular use of hands and arms to operate packaging tools, equipment, controls, and material handling equipment Position Type and Hours This is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

11:00 PM - 7:00 AM Additional hours, including Saturdays, may be required based on business needs. Required Qualifications Ability to accurately count product and perform basic mathematical calculations Ability to read, understand, and follow written work instructions and traveler requirements Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position Ability to learn and use applicable company systems Ability to safely operate packaging and material handling equipment following required training and authorization Preferred Qualifications Previous manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, or material handling experience Previous forklift or powered industrial truck experience Experience using computerized inventory, manufacturing, or warehouse management systems Other Requirements Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Ability to prioritize work based on shipping and operational needs Ability to identify discrepancies and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate team members Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Reliable transportation to and from the work location Other Duties This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
