Packing/Potting Specialist (Seasonal) | Native Foods Nursery | Dexter, OR

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Applications without relevant experience will not be reviewed. This is a fast-paced, hands-on production role. You should have at least one season of paid or serious volunteer work in a nursery, farm, greenhouse, or similar setting where you handled live plants or did fast-paced packing and shipping.

PAY AND SCHEDULE

• $18/hr starting. Higher pay is available for more experience or proven speed and accuracy.
• Speed bonus based on weekly output and accuracy
• 32-40 hrs/week, Sunday through Thursday, 8am-4pm

Our resilient perennials are chosen for edibility, landscape beauty, and low-maintenance care. We also offer edible home-landscape design and installation.

THE ROLE

Join our 2026/27 team as an experienced nursery hand. You'll pick, pot, and pack plants, and keep the nursery running day to day: weeding, watering, applying organic sprays, and cleaning up pots. Tasks shift with the seasons, from packing-heavy in winter to more plant care as the weather warms. You're consistent, focused, caring, and a clear communicator who is comfortable working with your hands, learning to identify native plants, and using online shipping systems. Our goal is to get more native edible plants into gardens across the country, to increase food security, expand wildlife habitat, and help combat climate change.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Pot bare-root plants efficiently and carefully
• Select the healthiest, strongest plants from field containers
• Accurately label and bundle complete orders
• Prune, weed, and re-pot plants
• Water plants and monitor moisture across field and pot areas
• Apply organic sprays safely, following label directions and protocols
• Clean and sort pots and trays for reuse
• Wrap, pad, secure, staple, and seal plants in shipping boxes
• Record order statistics; process and print shipping labels
• Move packages to UPS pickup
• Process refunds for order substitutions and modifications
• Keep the workspace clean and organized
• Flag questions or order inconsistencies to management

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven nursery, farm, greenhouse, or comparable hands-on experience
• Strong teamwork and communication
• Attention to quality and detail
• Reliable, punctual, and consistent
• Comfortable working with sprayers and following safety instructions (training and protective gear provided)
• Able to stand, lift [X lbs], and work outdoors in all weather
