Position Overview The Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Manager is responsible for leading FallTech's strategic sourcing, procurement operations, supplier development, and purchasing team to ensure the cost-effective, timely, and reliable acquisition of materials, components, assemblies, tooling, and other goods and services required to support manufacturing operations. This position combines strategic procurement leadership with direct people management , supervising approximately two to three employees responsible for purchasing, supplier coordination, and related procurement activities. The Manager establishes procurement priorities, assigns and oversees purchasing responsibilities, develops team capabilities, evaluates supplier performance, negotiates commercial agreements, and implements sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, delivery, supplier capability, and supply continuity. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Finance, and Product Management, this position ensures procurement activities support production requirements, New Product Introduction (NPI), product innovation, and business growth. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who combines strong commercial judgment, manufacturing knowledge, supplier negotiation expertise, analytical capabilities, and the ability to develop and hold employees accountable for results. Key Responsibilities Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Leadership Develop, implement, and manage strategic sourcing plans aligned with FallTech's operational requirements and long-term business objectives. Establish procurement strategies that balance cost competitiveness, product quality, delivery reliability, supplier capability, and supply continuity. Lead sourcing and supplier selection for raw materials, components, assemblies, tooling, contract manufacturing, and assigned indirect purchasing categories. Establish annual procurement priorities, sourcing initiatives, and supplier development objectives. Evaluate opportunities for supplier consolidation, dual sourcing, domestic sourcing, and international supplier diversification. Develop procurement strategies supporting NPI, manufacturing expansion, product redesign, and operational improvements. Monitor commodity pricing, tariffs, market conditions, supplier capacity, and global sourcing risks. Provide management with recommendations regarding supplier selection, sourcing alternatives, purchasing strategies, and significant procurement expenditures. Procurement Team Leadership & Employee Development Directly supervise, coach, and develop approximately two to three purchasing and procurement employees. Establish individual responsibilities, performance expectations, priorities, and measurable objectives. Assign and coordinate daily, weekly, and long-term purchasing activities to ensure timely execution. Monitor employee workload, purchasing performance, supplier follow-up, and completion of assigned responsibilities. Conduct regular team meetings and individual coaching discussions to review priorities, resolve obstacles, and reinforce accountability. Establish clear standards for purchase-order accuracy, supplier communication, delivery follow-up, ERP transactions, and procurement documentation. Provide technical guidance and support for complex supplier negotiations, purchasing decisions, and sourcing challenges. Conduct employee performance evaluations, provide feedback, and develop individual training and improvement plans. Participate in employee selection, onboarding, performance management, and corrective action processes in partnership with Human Resources. Recommend personnel actions, including hiring, advancement, performance improvement, and disciplinary action, consistent with company policies and delegated authority. Promote cross-training, succession planning, and professional development within the procurement team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving. Purchasing Operations & Execution Management Oversee purchasing activities to ensure materials and components are ordered and received in accordance with production requirements. Establish purchasing priorities based on manufacturing schedules, material availability, supplier lead times, and business needs. Review purchasing performance and intervene when critical orders, supplier commitments, or production requirements are at risk. Ensure purchasing employees maintain accurate purchase orders, supplier information, pricing, lead times, and other ERP/MRP records. Establish appropriate purchasing controls, approval procedures, and documentation standards. Coordinate with Planning, Manufacturing, and Inventory Control to address shortages, expedite critical materials, and resolve supply disruptions. Evaluate purchasing processes and implement improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness. Provide leadership and support for complex procurement issues while delegating routine purchasing activities appropriately. Supplier Relationship & Performance Management Serve as FallTech's principal commercial contact for strategic suppliers and significant sourcing relationships. Establish and maintain supplier partnerships focused on long-term value, performance, reliability, and continuous improvement. Develop and maintain supplier scorecards measuring quality, on-time delivery, responsiveness, cost competitiveness, and corrective action effectiveness. Conduct supplier business reviews and establish improvement expectations. Lead supplier performance improvement initiatives involving Quality, Engineering, and Operations. Evaluate supplier capacity, manufacturing capability, financial stability, and operational risks. Develop corrective action plans for suppliers failing to meet established performance requirements. Guide procurement employees in managing supplier communications, delivery commitments, and routine performance concerns. Develop contingency plans and alternative sourcing strategies for critical suppliers and materials. Contract Negotiation & Cost Management Lead significant supplier negotiations involving pricing, payment terms, contracts, service agreements, and long-term supply arrangements. Establish cost-reduction objectives and monitor progress toward procurement savings targets. Identify savings opportunities through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, value engineering, alternative materials, and process improvements. Evaluate total cost of ownership, including purchase price, freight, inventory carrying costs, quality, and supplier performance. Develop cost comparisons, supplier proposals, and financial analyses supporting sourcing recommendations. Partner with Finance and Operations on budgeting, forecasting, and procurement cost planning. Ensure purchasing decisions comply with established financial controls and approval authority. Report realized cost savings, cost avoidance, supplier pricing changes, and other significant procurement performance indicators. Manufacturing & Engineering Collaboration Partner with Engineering and Product Management to support New Product Introduction and product-development activities. Participate in sourcing decisions related to Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), product redesigns, component substitutions, and Bill of Material (BOM) requirements. Evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities and technical suitability for new and existing components. Support supplier selection and material readiness for new product launches. Coordinate sourcing requirements for tooling, prototypes, production components, and manufacturing changes. Work with Quality Assurance to evaluate supplier quality performance, audit findings, and corrective actions. Support manufacturability, value engineering, and product cost optimization initiatives. Ensure the procurement team understands and responds appropriately to engineering changes and related purchasing requirements. Supply Chain Risk Management & Business Continuity Identify and evaluate risks associated with supplier performance, financial stability, production capacity, geopolitical conditions, and material availability. Develop mitigation strategies for critical materials, components, and suppliers. Establish appropriate sourcing alternatives to reduce reliance on single-source suppliers when feasible. Monitor supplier lead times, production capacity, and material availability to identify potential shortages. Lead procurement response activities during significant supplier disruptions. Coordinate with Planning, Operations, and Engineering to minimize the impact of material shortages on production. Maintain appropriate visibility of high-risk suppliers and critical sourcing dependencies. Inventory & Materials Planning Support Collaborate with Planning and Operations to align procurement activities with production schedules and material requirements. Review purchasing parameters, including supplier lead times, minimum order quantities, reorder points, and safety-stock recommendations. Evaluate supplier performance and purchasing practices that contribute to excess inventory, shortages, or material obsolescence. Support accurate ERP/MRP purchasing data and material planning information. Participate in Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) activities as appropriate. Develop recommendations that balance material availability, inventory investment, and procurement efficiency. Procurement Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Establish and maintain procurement KPIs and management reporting tools. Monitor purchase-order performance, supplier delivery reliability, purchasing accuracy, cost savings, and supplier responsiveness. Evaluate ERP/MRP purchasing processes and recommend improvements to data accuracy, reporting, and workflow efficiency. Develop and maintain procurement policies, standard operating procedures, and purchasing controls. Identify opportunities to automate routine purchasing activities and improve process visibility. Lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce waste, improve supplier performance, and strengthen procurement effectiveness. Apply Lean Manufacturing and structured problem-solving principles where appropriate. Provide periodic procurement performance updates to supply chain leadership. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, Finance, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, professional certifications, and substantial directly relevant experience may be considered. Professional Experience Minimum eight years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, purchasing, supplier development, or supply chain management preferred. Minimum three years of demonstrated experience supervising, leading, or managing purchasing or procurement employees preferred. Experience managing a team of buyers, purchasing specialists, or procurement professionals strongly preferred. Demonstrated success developing sourcing strategies, negotiating supplier agreements, and delivering measurable cost improvements. Experience managing strategic suppliers and complex sourcing initiatives. Strong manufacturing or industrial procurement experience required. Experience supporting NPI, Engineering Change Orders, and manufacturing material requirements strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience managing supplier performance, material shortages, and purchasing priorities. Experience in engineered products, aerospace, industrial equipment, safety products, or related manufacturing environments desirable. Preferred Industry Knowledge Experience sourcing or managing suppliers involving: Metals and fabricated components. Webbing and industrial textiles. Plastics and molded components. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, cost modeling, and data analysis. Experience with Power BI or similar reporting platforms preferred.
