Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to provide purchasing leadership and support across multiple manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest. This role is responsible for developing purchasing strategies, negotiating significant supplier agreements, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring the organization has the materials, supplies, equipment, and services needed to support efficient manufacturing operations. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with purchasing personnel at individual facilities while serving as a higher-level resource for strategic purchasing decisions across the organization. This includes developing key supplier relationships, negotiating larger or multi-location contracts, identifying opportunities to leverage purchasing volume, and establishing consistent purchasing practices where appropriate. The ideal candidate is a strong manufacturing purchasing professional who understands MRO, industrial supplies, production materials, supplier negotiations, and the importance of cost, quality, availability, and delivery to a manufacturing operation. Key Responsibilities Purchasing & Supplier Management Provide purchasing leadership and expertise across multiple manufacturing facilities. Develop and execute purchasing strategies for manufacturing materials, MRO products, equipment, and services. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, contracts, and service levels with key suppliers. Lead negotiations for significant, multi-location, or strategic supplier agreements. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and industrial distributors. Identify and qualify new suppliers and alternative sources to improve pricing, quality, availability, and supply continuity. Monitor supplier performance and address issues involving quality, delivery, pricing, and service. Serve as a higher-level escalation point for significant supplier or purchasing issues. Cost Management & Process Improvement Analyze purchasing and supplier spend to identify cost-reduction and consolidation opportunities. Identify opportunities to leverage purchasing volume across facilities and negotiate improved company-wide pricing. Evaluate supplier markets, pricing trends, and product availability. Establish purchasing practices and guidelines that improve consistency and efficiency across the organization. Identify opportunities to improve purchasing systems, reporting, inventory practices, and processes. Balance cost, quality, availability, and service when making purchasing decisions. Support initiatives that improve overall purchasing performance and supply continuity. Collaboration & Leadership Partner closely with purchasing personnel at each manufacturing facility to share best practices, identify opportunities, and improve purchasing effectiveness. Provide guidance, resources, and purchasing expertise to plant purchasing teams without necessarily having direct supervisory responsibility for those employees. Establish company-wide purchasing strategies and standards while supporting the individual needs of each facility. Work closely with Plant Managers, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, and other functional leaders to resolve purchasing issues and support business objectives. Build strong internal relationships and foster collaboration across purchasing teams and manufacturing locations. Manufacturing & MRO Develop a strong understanding of the materials and supplies required to support manufacturing operations. Work with plant teams to improve sourcing, availability, and cost of MRO products and production-related materials. Familiarity with MRO categories such as tools, abrasives, chemicals, valves, cutting tools, electrical products, PPE, and related industrial supplies is preferred. Understand the impact purchasing decisions have on production schedules, downtime, quality, and overall plant performance. Qualifications Purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Demonstrated experience purchasing MRO products, manufacturing materials, industrial supplies, and/or production-related goods and services. Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills. Experience analyzing spend and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Ability to evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, delivery, service, and reliability. Experience negotiating contracts and managing strategic supplier relationships. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work effectively with plant operations, maintenance, finance, and purchasing personnel. Experience supporting multiple manufacturing locations is strongly preferred. Experience providing leadership, guidance, or coordination to purchasing personnel is a plus. Strong computer, organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent purchasing and manufacturing experience is equally acceptable. Travel This position requires approximately 25% travel , primarily to the company's manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest. Typically one day or two days max at a time. Travel may be more frequent during the initial onboarding period to build relationships with plant teams, understand purchasing practices, and establish consistent processes. Travel is expected to stabilize at approximately 25% based on business needs. Pay:

$115,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
