$150,000 - $180,000 About Learning Matters Educational Group Learning Matters Educational Group (LMEG) is a multi-state charter management organization serving over 5,600 students across California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.
We operate three school brands:
Taylion Homeschool and Independent Study, ThrivePoint Alternative High Schools, and Calibre Academy. Our mission is to bring educational opportunities to underserved students. The families who find us have often already been let down by the traditional system. We exist for the student who needs a different path, the family who needs a flexible option, and the young adult who needs to believe that finishing is still possible. We build schools that meet students where they are and help them get where they are going. The Opportunity LMEG is hiring a Senior Director of Educational Systems to own the student journey across our four core systems: Enrollment, Engagement, Achievement, and Compliance. This is a senior leadership role that supervises four functional directors and is accountable for how those systems perform as a coherent whole across all three school brands and all four states. This is not a coordination role. It is a product ownership role. The student journey, from first inquiry to next milestone, is the product. The four directors are the product team. This role designs the systems, drives the accountability, and ensures that every student and family experiences a school that is organized, responsive, and excellent. We are looking for a leader who has operated at this level before: someone who knows how to build systems that scale, lead directors who lead teams, and hold the line on outcomes when the easier path is to accept effort as a substitute. What You Will Own The Student Journey Own the end-to-end experience a student has from first contact through active enrollment, academic progress, and compliant documentation Identify and close gaps in the handoffs between Enrollment, Engagement, Achievement, and Compliance Standardize the student experience across Taylion, ThrivePoint, and Calibre while honoring the distinct needs of each brand Build and maintain a product roadmap for each system with defined outcomes, timelines, and accountability owners The Product Team Directly supervise and evaluate the Directors of Enrollment, Engagement, Achievement, and Compliance Set clear performance expectations, conduct structured accountability reviews, and differentiate performance across the team Coach and develop directors with an expectation of increasing capability over time Address underperformance directly, promptly, and in partnership with HR Organizational Execution Translate the VP of Educational Services' priorities into system-level execution plans with defined owners and timelines Own the annual Ed Services offsite: produce the rally cry, defining objectives, and accountability framework the team executes against for the year Remove cross-functional barriers to execution and escalate blockers with a recommended resolution, not just a flag Monitor progress against the roadmap and adjust the plan when milestones slip Data and Insight Synthesize performance data across all four systems and translate it into clear, prioritized insight for the VP of Educational Services Own the authorizer accountability argument for Taylion, including the CAASPP Change metric case to Adelanto ESD Identify risk patterns before they become crises and escalate with a recommended path forward Ensure consistent use of LMEG-designated systems and reporting tools across all functions and states School Experience Ensure schools receive coordinated, predictable, and sequenced support from all four pillar teams Establish feedback loops with school principals and LCCs to understand how systems are landing at the site level Own the diagnosis when schools escalate frustration, rather than routing it back to a functional director without a response framework What We Need From You Required Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred in Education Leadership, Organizational Management, or a related field Minimum eight years of experience in educational leadership, operations, or systems management Demonstrated experience supervising senior leaders or directors with documented accountability actions Proven ability to lead through clarity and accountability rather than consensus or positional authority alone Strong systems thinking: ability to diagnose root causes across a multi-function operation, design interventions, and measure results Working knowledge of enrollment, engagement, academic performance, and compliance functions in a K-12 setting Ability to synthesize data across multiple functions and communicate findings with precision to executive leadership Preferred Experience in charter management organizations, alternative education, or multi-state educational networks Background in product management, program operations, or service delivery at organizational scale Experience designing and scaling cross-functional systems across multiple teams or geographies Familiarity with independent study, homeschool, or non-traditional K-12 instructional models Comfort operating in high-accountability environments where ambiguity is resolved through action What Success Looks Like In the first 30 days, you have mapped the complete student journey across all four systems and all four states, identified the highest-priority gaps, and delivered a written diagnostic to the VP of Educational Services. By 60 days, you have closed at least one systemic handoff failure, clarified swim lanes across the four functional directors, and begun formal accountability differentiation where it is warranted. By 90 days, schools are describing a measurably different experience. Directors are being held to outcome metrics rather than activity reports. The VP of Educational Services has more leverage and less tactical noise than before you arrived. At the end of year one, the student journey is tighter, faster, and more consistent than it was the year before, and you can point to the specific improvements that made it so. Why LMEG You will have real authority. This role supervises four directors and is empowered to intervene, restructure, and hold the line on outcomes. The mission is real. We serve students that the traditional system left behind. The families who find us took a risk on us. Your work directly determines whether that risk was worth taking. The organization is growing. We have expanded from 1,100 to more than 8,000 students across four states. This role exists because we have built something worth protecting and improving. The team is strong. The leaders you will supervise are talented, experienced, and operating in a high-accountability culture that rewards clarity and ownership. The work is visible. You will report directly to the VP of Educational Services and operate at the intersection of every major Ed function in the organization. Compensation and Benefits LMEG offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt, year-round position. Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off; and professional development support. This position is remote with occasional travel to school sites and leadership events across California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief cover letter describing the systems or cross-functional problem you are most proud of solving, what you built to solve it, and how you measured success. Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered. LMEG is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
