Job Description

Job Overview This position supports the coordination and day-to-day functions of the DEEP Roots Demonstration Garden, including policies and procedures, logistics, maintenance, and event/activity coordination. The position works closely with the DEEP Roots Program Coordinator and requires appropriate approval and oversight for garden operations and decisions. This is a combination of field and office work, so applicants should be friendly, outgoing, collaborative, comfortable speaking in front of large groups, and fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. Spanish is a plus. The ideal candidate is flexible, adaptable, and able to adjust to changing priorities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Respectfully and professionally represents FoodLink and its programs at all times.
  • Implements policies and procedures for the demonstration program tasks & operations
  • Coordinates with FoodLink team members, volunteers, and outside partners in the scheduling and coordination of the demonstration garden volunteer days, field trips, and skill shares
  • Assists with workshop logistics, including event preparation, setup, materials, and other tasks to support successful workshops and activities
  • Assists with growing seedlings and preparing seedlings for free community distributions
  • Attends staff meetings, 1:1s, and other meetings necessary for the smooth coordination of the demonstration garden and activities
  • Assists with day-to-day demonstration garden activities, including planting, harvesting, maintenance, irrigation, seed starting, and other seasonal garden tasks.
  • As needed, assists the DEEP Roots Program Coordinator with compost management, fertilizing, soil preparation, and other soil health and maintenance activities.
  • Maintains all written and electronic records associated with the program
  • Develops and maintains a positive work environment, communicating with all FoodLink team members and volunteers collaboratively and respectfully.
  • As needed, assists with home, community, and school garden projects, including garden design, construction, planting, and providing guidance and support to participants.
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully with community members and partners, being sensitive to vulnerable populations from different ethnic, racial, and cultural groups, and those from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles.
  • Communicates effectively in writing (English and Spanish), preparing clean and professional online and print materials, free of spelling and grammar errors.
  • Upholds the FoodLink values of trust, collaboration, respect, compassion, and food with dignity at all times and in all venues, including online.
  • Willing to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Comfortable using G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite Applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, and use hands
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Requires outdoor work, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 26.0 - 30.0 per week
