Overview of position:
The job of the student mentor is to identify students/youth who are most at risk of negative behavior, build professional relationships with them, assess their needs and work to help guide them through critical adolescent years, while also addressing their social needs through Crossroads services or referrals to external partners.
Duties and responsibilities:
Present a positive example to clients at all times Engage school staff and student families when appropriate Obtain consent from willing individuals for program services and the evaluation component Conduct a needs assessment (CYA) with clients to evaluate existing risk-factors Use the needs assessment to develop an individualized service plan Provide non-clinical one on one sessions with students Conduct conflict mediation between students and with school staff when needed Ability to present in front of small and large crowds Skilled in running and conducting workshops Lead and support small youth programs and activities (e.g., Girl Talk, Boy Talk, tournaments) Plan and assist with quarterly youth engagement projects Coordinate logistics and collaborate with staff and school partners to ensure successful program delivery Execute the mandated reporting process promptly with the Supervisor and School Administrator Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, where necessary Conduct case management and community accompaniment to help clients Ability to drive to and from multiple work locations Provide mentorship to clients, modeling and supporting positive growth Proficient in documentation and note taking skills Participate in regular multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss client progress Regularly input client data into the electronic program database (within 24 hours) Participate in training for personal and professional development, including self-care and wellness Attends meetings and training, as required Assist other departments with youth programs when needed Maintain healthy self-care for your personal well being Maintain positive and consistent business casual dress code Assists with general cleanliness of the office and workstation Work a flexible schedule, which may include weekend shifts Participate in training and self-care activities when provided by Crossroads Any other duties not listed above to ensure program and client success (Related duties as required are duties which may not be specifically listed) Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Social Service, Business, Psychology, Public Health or related field Excellent organizational leadership skills Strong Microsoft Excel skills Strong Microsoft Office suite skills Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
