Program Specialist - After-School Character Counts! Program Part-Time | Watsonville, CA | $20 per hour | 6-25 hours per week About Scouting America and Character Counts! Position Summary We are seeking caring, dependable, and motivated individuals to serve as Program Specialists for our after-school Character Counts! program, offered in partnership with Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD) at elementary schools in Watsonville. Program Specialists lead engaging, hands-on lessons that help students build character, develop practical life skills, work as a team, and grow in confidence. Lesson plans, materials, activities, and ongoing training are provided. This is a meaningful opportunity to work directly with children while making a positive difference in the Watsonville community. Key Responsibilities Lead structured and engaging after-school sessions for elementary school students Use provided lesson plans and ready-to-go activities Guide students through teamwork, skill-building, and character-focused projects Create a positive, inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment Prepare materials and activities for upcoming sessions Attend weekly training sessions, planning meetings, and team check-ins Communicate professionally with PVUSD staff, families, and program team members Travel between assigned schools in the Watsonville area Assist with additional program preparation and support as needed Schedule and School Assignments Program Specialists may serve multiple PVUSD elementary schools in Watsonville on a rotating schedule. Most school-based sessions will take place during after-school hours. Specific school assignments and program times will be provided as the schedule is finalized. Applicants should have afternoon availability and the flexibility to travel between assigned school locations.

6-25 hours per week, depending on school assignments and program needs

$20 per hour
Schedule:
Flexible, with most school-based hours occurring in the afternoon Program calendar: School year, excluding school holidays Primary work locations: Participating PVUSD elementary schools in Watsonville Work arrangement: In person Weekly hours may include school-based program delivery, lesson preparation, material organization, training, meetings, administrative support, and travel between program locations. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Forty-eight college credits or an associate degree preferred, particularly in education, recreation, child development, or a related field Bilingual English/Spanish skills strongly preferred Experience working with school-aged children in schools, after-school programs, camps, recreation programs, or youth-serving organizations strongly preferred Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills Basic computer skills, including typing, internet navigation, email, and file management Enthusiasm for helping children develop character, confidence, and leadership skills Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required Benefits Flexible schedule Employee discount Paid training and program preparation Meaningful, hands-on work with children and local PVUSD schools How to Apply Please email your resume and references to: linda.diamantopoulos@scouting.org Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview.
