We have been operating in the Southwest since 1984, rafting, canoeing, backpacking, and otherwise exploring. But what truly sets us apart is our element of cross-cultural service. Over the past 40 years, we have been building relationships with families on the Navajo Nation and in Hopi and Zuni Pueblos. Position Description Deer Hill Field Staff and Program Leaders act as the primary guides for 12

•20 person youth wilderness immersion and reciprocal service learning experiences 1-3 weeks in duration. As a Field Staff, you will: Work alongside your team to prepare equipment, goals, and curriculum for each trip Orient participants to necessary skills and expectations while at our Basecamp Guide your group into authentic connection with self, others, and place as they progress through their experience Model respect and engagement in cultural immersion experiences Duties and Responsibilities Effective wilderness risk management and adherence to all policies and procedures of Deer Hill Facilitate fun and bonding memories for participants through games, activities, and passion for the outdoors Utilize experiential teaching tools and lessons from your own knwledge and Deer Hill resources to educate students on the ecology and human history of our course areas Practice growth mindset by engaging in feedback, trying new things, and bringing a curious presence each day Additional Responsibilities of Program Leaders Facilitate briefings and orientations within the Instructor Team prior to participant arrival Ensure opportunities for feedback are provided regularly. Be the first to provide both positive and growth-oriented feedback and mentorship to your co-instructors Complete all required documentation to a high level of quality, delegating to Field Staff as appropriate Act as the primary interface between the Field Team and operational support at Basecamp, both throughh regularly planned check-ins as well as any incident reporting and resolution as the need arises Bring a high degree of experience in facilitating wilderness trips for young participants and a readiness to independently manage behavioral issues, medical needs within the scope of a WFR, and strong decision making in unpredictable environments Required Skills 21 years of age minimum. Able to work legally in the United States. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Current CPR and WFR certifications, minimum. Able to pass criminal background check with CBI and FBI. Able to manage participant and program needs 24/7 for the duration of the contract. Successful professional experience guiding and teaching groups in wilderness settings. •October Field Staff may apply for spring, summer or both seasons. Each contract is for a program that ranges between 1 and 4 weeks in length. Field Staff can either work a single contract or multiple contracts, depending on Deer Hill need and Field Staff preference. Preference is given to applicants with open availability for a full season (March-August).
