POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Director, Camp Experience & Events provides year-round leadership for Camp Immokalee's programs, experiences, and traditions. Reporting to the Senior Director of Camping, this leader owns the planning, development, quality, and execution of engaging, safe, and memorable experiences for campers, families, and guests. The Program Director leads and develops the program team, including Target Sports, Aquatics, Creative, Land, Retreat, and other assigned program leaders and staff. This position establishes clear expectations and accountability for program quality, traditions, themes, evening activities, signature and family events, retreats, program-area operations, equipment and resources, and training. Working collaboratively across camp functions, the Program Director turns camp priorities into strong daily execution while developing capable leaders, strengthening programs, encouraging innovation, and honoring the traditions that make Camp Immokalee special.

The YMCA of Florida's First Coast has strengthened Northeast Florida communities for nearly 120 years. Today, the First Coast Y serves more than 200,000 individuals and families each year through membership facilities, an overnight camp, a charter school, and youth development, wellness, and community programs—all united by a mission to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. YMCA Camp Immokalee is a year-round overnight camp community where young people build confidence, independence, friendships, and belonging. During its 10-week summer season, Immokalee serves approximately 1,400 overnight campers, along with up to 75 day campers each week. Camp continues throughout the year through retreats, seasonal camps, group programs, family events, and other experiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Own the planning, development, quality, and execution of Camp Immokalee's programs and camper experiences, including traditions, themes, evening activities, signature and family events, retreats, and other assigned experiences. Lead program innovation and continuous improvement while preserving and strengthening the traditions that make Camp Immokalee special. Supervise, coach, develop, and hold accountable program-area leaders, including Target Sports, Aquatics, Creative, Land, Retreat, and other assigned program staff. Recruit, select, onboard, train, and evaluate seasonal program staff in partnership with the Senior Director of Camping and other camp leaders. Establish clear expectations for program leaders and ensure each area is appropriately staffed, trained, prepared, equipped, and operated to YMCA standards for safety, quality, and participant experience. Provide ongoing training, observation, feedback, and support that builds the capacity of program leaders and seasonal staff. Develop and execute program schedules, staffing plans, activity plans, and systems necessary for organized, engaging, and high-quality experiences. Maintain a visible and hands-on leadership presence throughout camp, regularly observing programs and responding to staffing, scheduling, weather, equipment, and other operational needs. Champion safety and youth protection and ensure program operations align with YMCA policies, emergency procedures, applicable standards, and established operating requirements. Lead assigned retreat and group experiences, coordinating programs, staffing, schedules, resources, and guest needs with other camp leaders. Use camper, family, guest, and staff feedback, participation information, and lessons learned to strengthen program quality and experiences. Coordinate with property, food service, hospitality, and other camp functions to deliver well-integrated programs, events, and experiences. Manage assigned program budgets, purchasing, equipment, supplies, inventories, and other resources with sound stewardship. Support family, community, and YMCA events that strengthen engagement with Camp Immokalee and advance the YMCA's mission. Provide evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight program leadership as required by overnight camp, retreat, and event operations. Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.

Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.

Demonstrates compliance with YMCA Child Abuse Prevention and Abuse Risk Management policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in camp, recreation, youth development, outdoor programs, events, or a related environment; overnight camp experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, and developing seasonal staff and program-area leaders. Demonstrated experience planning and executing camp programs, activities, schedules, events, and related operational details. Strong organizational, communication, relationship-building, creative problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to establish expectations, hold staff accountable, and develop leaders while building positive and collaborative relationships. Knowledge of, or ability to learn and apply, safety standards and operating requirements associated with specialized camp program areas and engage qualified staff when technical expertise is required. Must work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight periods as required by overnight camp, retreat, and event operations. On-site residency in YMCA-provided housing is required. Valid driver's license, satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and eligibility to operate YMCA vehicles required. Successful completion of required background screening and YMCA youth protection requirements, including applicable Level 2 screening. CPR, First Aid, AED, and other required certifications, or ability to obtain them within the YMCA-established timeframe.

Must pass Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position operates in an active overnight camp environment and requires regular movement throughout camp property, including uneven outdoor terrain and exposure to heat, humidity, rain, insects, water, and other outdoor conditions. The position involves active participation in the preparation, setup, delivery, and breakdown of programs and events and must be able to respond promptly to operational needs and emergencies. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
