Role:
Lean On Us Unity is seeking passionate and skilled independent contractors to provide structured, engaging, and age-appropriate courses for the youth enrolled in our aftercare program. Contractors will deliver an hour long program for the 2026-2027 AY . We are looking for professionals with expertise in areas such as DJ/Music, Robotics, Coding, Cooking/baking, and other creative or educational disciplines. Understanding the Hiring Process Key Role-Specific Competencies 1. Program Development & Implementation Designing, planning, and executing youth programs aligned with the organization's mission. Developing engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote learning, leadership, and social development. Understanding child and adolescent development principles. 2. Youth Engagement & Relationship Building Establishing trust and rapport with diverse youth populations. Creating an inclusive and supportive environment for participants. Mentoring and guiding youth through personal and educational development. 3. Communication & Facilitation Strong verbal and written communication skills tailored to different age groups. Public speaking and workshop facilitation abilities; support provided based on organizational structure. Conflict resolution and mediation skills to address youth challenges. 4. Behavior Management & Safety Awareness Implementing positive, non-confrontational strategies. Ensuring the social and emotional safety and well-being of all participants. Recognizing signs of abuse, trauma, or mental health concerns and making appropriate referrals (Mandated Reporter Clearance required for all contractors serving youth ages 0-18). 5. Cultural Competency & Inclusion Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in programming. Adapting programs to be accessible for youth with disabilities or special needs. 6. Collaboration & Teamwork Working effectively with staff, volunteers, parents, and community partners. Building partnerships with schools, local organizations, and stakeholders. Contributing to team efforts and assisting with organizational initiatives. 7. Program Evaluation & Reporting Collecting data on participation and impact, including program summaries, surveys, or attendance. Assessing program effectiveness and making suggestions for improvement. Writing and submitting program syllabi and sharing success stories with the organization.
Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver a well-thought-out, rigorous 2-hour course weekly for the 6-week summer camp. Ensure the course is engaging, age-appropriate, and aligns with Lean On Us Unity's mission and teaching methods. Maintain open and proactive communication with Lean On Us Unity staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project progress and deliverables. Produce high-quality work output that meets Lean On Us Unity's standards and expectations.
