Job Description

The Meal & Day Service Coordinator assumes primary responsibility for the shelter meal programs, carrying out policies and procedures related to food service and safety. This includes meal preparation, inventory management, clean-up of the food service area, and full compliance with the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Required:
ServSafe Food Manager Certification Primary Duties Manage shelter meal programs, enforcing safety regulations, meal service standards, food preparation protocols, and dining area cleaning and sanitation according to local health codes. Oversee overall kitchen management. Monitor and enforce shelter CACFP policies and procedures to ensure full compliance with regulations and requirements, including point-of-service documentation, proper meal composition, and the submission of daily meal data. Coordinate the pick-up and proper use of donated food, while tracking and maintaining necessary program supplies within budget constraints. Supervise staff and volunteers performing meal service tasks in cooperation with the Resource & Education Coordinator and Shelter Directors. Secondary Duties Train staff as needed on ServSafe Food Handler Certificate requirements, CACFP compliance, and related food operations. Act as a liaison to various other meal programs and external organizations—including the Maryland State Department of Education-Food Distribution Section, Maryland Food Bank, Maryland Food Committee, and Second Helping—while adhering to applicable standards and regulations. Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with planning and coordinating volunteers, fostering a welcoming and positive environment, and working with them effectively. Regularly evaluate meal service guest satisfaction and propose improvements to shelter directors. Attend and fully participate in shelter All Staff meetings and other internal meetings.
