Job Description

Position Summary The EdGE Afterschool Assistant Staff supports Mission Downeast initiatives that leverage education, leadership, experiential, outdoor activities, and mentoring-based programs to build youth engagement, aspirations, and resilience. This position works with a team of staff to facilitate EdGE afterschool program with a focus on students in kindergarten through eighth grade. This role reports to the EdGE Afterschool Site Coordinator or EdGE Youth Development Coordinator. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Provide a safe and welcoming environment for all EdGE afterschool participants Engage positively with youth during programming Act as a positive role model and mentor to students Assist lead staff in various activities/programming Work as part of a team with other EdGE Afterschool staff to provide quality programming Other duties as assigned by your supervisor As Part of Maine Seacoast Mission Promote and embody the Mission as a welcoming and inclusive organization, where all people are valued and respected Support the values and purpose of the Maine Seacoast Mission as expressed in the mission statement and other guiding documents Uphold the reputation of the Mission and honor the trust built over generations between the Mission and the communities with which we work Qualifications Core Qualifications Demonstrated passion for working with youth Commitment to honoring, learning from, and contributing to the distinct coastal and island communities the Mission serves Commitment to youth-development programming Ability to work as part of a team Commitment to diversity as source of strength and to valuing the dignity and worth of every person Clear and kind communication skills Collaborative working style Required Education and Experience Job-related experience Must be at least 15 years of age with a workers permit Preferred Education and Experience Some High School Ability to work with students who come from rural and lower income backgrounds Lived experience that reflects the communities we serve Ability to work with students in experiential education Special Qualifications and Certifications Background check required unless already employed by a school partner Position Conditions and Requirements Work Environment Ability to work in school spaces, outside in various weather conditions and, at times, in a noisy environment Ability to use computer or mobile device to clock in and out for time sheets Physical Demands Able to remain in a stationary position for up to two hours at a time Able to move in a variety of positions for activities and games with children Ability to lift up to 30 pounds Travel Requirements Ability to travel to program site Compensation This is a part-time, non-exempt position based on a variable work week. The hourly rate of $15.60.
