Job Description

Peer Support Specialist Disability Network Mid-Michigan (DNMM)
Schedule:
Full-Time, 40 Hours per
Week Reports To:
Community Services Program Manager Position Overview The Peer Support Specialist helps people with disabilities achieve maximum community inclusion, participation, and independence through the development of a peer mentor program and the facilitation of advocacy and social networking groups. The primary focus of this position is to encourage and enhance social relationships between people with disabilities and help build strong peer networks throughout DNMM's service area. Essential Responsibilities Organize peer groups to encourage and enhance the development of social relationships between people with disabilities. Provide ongoing guidance for existing advocacy and support groups. Promote the development of peer networks throughout DNMM's service area. Complete documentation and billing as required by contracts or funding sources. Travel throughout DNMM's 12-county service area . Attend agency meetings and trainings as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The individual in this position is expected to demonstrate the following, with or without reasonable accommodation: Knowledge of and experience working with people with disabilities. Familiarity with a Person-Centered Service provision approach . Familiarity with Mandated Reporter guidelines . Effective communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Effective documentation skills. Computer skills. Effective presentation and public speaking skills. Diplomacy skills to assist in resolving consumer or customer dissatisfaction. Strong time management skills. Ability to relate well to individuals with a variety of cognitive and functional abilities .
Education Minimum:
High school diploma.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours may be necessary to meet the needs of the position. Travel Regular travel throughout DNMM's 12-county service area is required.
