full-time Casual/Flexible position, up to 20 hours/week $17.50/hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The STEM Facilitator is a casual position that facilitates program sessions to youth in grades

K-12. STEM

Facilitator work in partnership with the Girl Experience Department, volunteers, and staff to implement and oversee the delivery of high quality, technical STEM program experiences. Facilitators also assist with the collection and tracking of necessary program documentation and evaluation pieces as required by the program. Program needs are assigned on a session-by-session basis. STEM Facilitators can work the shifts that they are qualified for and that fit their schedules up to 20 hours per week. Most STEM programs will fall into one of the following categories: Field Trips

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8:30 AM
  • 3:30 PM during the school year. STEM Summer Camps
  • Monday
  • Friday 8:30 AM
  • 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM
  • 4:30 PM. Weekend Workshops
  • Saturday or Sunday, 3-hour blocks within the window of 10:00 AM
  • 4:00 PM. Evening Experiences
  • Tuesday-Saturday within the window of 5:30 PM
  • 8:30 PM.
Most STEM programs will take place at one of these locations:
GSNEO STEM

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Commit to a minimum of two (2) shifts per month. Have the ability to attend quarterly Friday meetings. Facilitate high-level, technical STEM programs throughout the GSNEO council jurisdiction, including by not limited to Girl Scout members and school aged children. Use contemporary Girl Scout program content to deliver STEM programs in a variety of settings, including troop support, special events, and camp. Trains on and utilize special STEM-related equipment, 3D printers, laser and vinyl cutters, power tools, telescopes, electronics, robots, coding tools, biology and chemistry equipment, etc. Maintain inventory of program supplies and equipment, delivery to program sites, and routine maintenance. Record and report data on attendance and programmatic outcomes as required. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including daily cleaning after programs. Additional responsibilities assigned by management. Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Formal STEM Education and/or a combination of work-related experience of 2-4 years. Record of successful youth program facilitation preferred. Computer literacy and technical knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Office suite. Experience in at least one of the following areas: Digital Fabrication

  • 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, etc. and relevant software. Robotics and Coding
  • Lego Robotics, Ozobot, Sphero, DoBot, MakeyMakey, Microbit, Arduino, etc. Electronics
  • paper circuits, simple circuits, soldering, etc. Engineering
  • building bridges, towers, wind turbines, etc. Astronomy
  • Telescopes, Star Lab, etc. Ecology
  • nature and environmental programs and projects. Sciences
  • Hands on experiments in Biology and/or Chemistry. Woodworking
  • power tools, design, etc. Maker/STEAM
  • button making, sticker printing, tie dye, book binding, etc.

Ability to learn additional software specific to the position. Strong human relations skills such as classroom management, leadership, and relationship building Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary Ability to meet travel requirements, including evenings and weekends Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality Ability to troubleshoot equipment maintenance Comfortable working independently as well as with a team Commitment to inclusiveness. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills Current Girl Scout membership Successfully complete a background check Valid driver's license; proof of insurance and access to insured vehicle in working condition
