The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of project management experience specifically with a commercial drywall subcontractor, including budgeting, scheduling, field coordination, and project execution from award through closeout. This is a full-time, 100% onsite position offering a starting base salary of approximately $100,000+, commensurate with experience. About the Job Synectics is seeking an experienced Commercial Drywall Project Manager for an established specialty construction contractor serving the greater Chicago area. This opportunity is ideal for a construction professional with a strong background in commercial drywall subcontracting who is ready to take ownership of complex projects, manage budgets and schedules, coordinate field operations, and contribute to the successful execution of commercial interior construction work. The ideal candidate understands the business of commercial drywall construction-not just general project management. We are seeking someone who can confidently manage projects from contract award through completion, maintain productive relationships with general contractors, anticipate operational challenges, and deliver quality work on schedule and within budget. This is a hands-on project management position for an experienced professional who values accountability, technical expertise, and working closely with construction operations teams. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Execution Manage commercial drywall and related interior construction projects from contract award through final closeout. Review architectural drawings, construction specifications, contracts, and scopes of work to identify project requirements and potential issues. Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and installation sequences. Oversee multiple active projects while maintaining clear visibility into milestones, deliverables, and project performance. Financial & Contract Management Manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and financial performance. Prepare, review, and administer change orders, pay applications, and associated project documentation. Identify potential cost overruns, scope changes, and schedule impacts early, taking appropriate corrective action. Maintain accurate records and reporting to support profitability and successful project completion. Field Operations & Coordination Coordinate with general contractors, superintendents, foremen, field crews, suppliers, and other project stakeholders. Plan and coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, procurement, and delivery schedules to support efficient field execution. Monitor installation progress and address issues involving scope, sequencing, constructability, or site conditions. Conduct jobsite visits to assess progress, installation quality, safety compliance, and project requirements. Technical Oversight & Communication Manage RFIs, submittals, inspections, project documentation, and closeout requirements. Verify that drywall and related interior construction work complies with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Maintain effective communication with general contractor project teams, internal leadership, field personnel, and vendors. Provide timely project updates and proactively resolve issues that could affect schedules, budgets, or client expectations. Qualifications Approximately 5-10 years of directly relevant experience in commercial drywall subcontracting, including demonstrated commercial drywall project management responsibilities. Experience working for a commercial drywall specialty subcontractor is required. General construction management experience without this background is not sufficient. Proven ability to manage commercial drywall projects through the full construction lifecycle, from planning and mobilization to closeout. Strong working knowledge of commercial drywall systems, metal stud framing, installation practices, materials, and construction sequencing. Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, change orders, procurement, and subcontractor or field crew coordination. Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, project contracts, and technical documentation. Experience coordinating directly with general contractors, site superintendents, field foremen, and material suppliers. Strong organizational, financial management, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with construction management software, digital project documentation, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work 100% onsite in Hillside, Illinois, with travel to project locations throughout the Chicagoland area as required. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing large-scale or technically complex commercial drywall and interior construction projects. Familiarity with rough carpentry, acoustical ceiling systems, specialty interior finishes, and doors and hardware. Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or comparable construction project management and document review platforms. A degree or formal training in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent relevant industry experience is also valued. A demonstrated history of managing multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, cost controls, and schedule performance.
