GENERAL SUMMARY
The Shelter Manager position will provide direct services to survivors of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking; while collaborating with a team of shelter staff and volunteers to coordinate emergency shelter and 24-Hour Help and Support line services. The Shelter Manager will coordinate emergency shelter and 24-Hour Help and Support line operations. They will model trauma- informed supervision while supporting their team and consult regularly with the Emergency Services Coordinator for support in continually developing leadership skills and abilities, while maintaining a deep commitment to "always be learning" as a leader in a movement-based field of human services. They will work on a shift-based team responsible for coverage of the emergency shelter, 24/7/365 as scheduled and after hours on-call as scheduled. They are responsible for ensuring all emergency shelter employees maintain adequate documentation, are following through on commitments to attend events or meetings and are completing time and activity tracking reports by the deadlines assigned. The Shelter Manager is responsible for ensuring all relevant policies and procedures are followed in the department and will communicate proactively with the Emergency Services Coordinator as issues arise.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Passion for social justice and the mission of the agency. Will understand and model the application of the Core Competencies of Advocacy in their work. Committed to the elimination of racism, sexism, classism, homophobia and other forms of oppression and an understanding of intersectionality and how identity impacts trauma. Openness to learn and teach about trauma-informed services and survivor-centered approaches to working with victims of stalking, sexual and domestic violence. Ability to address one's own privilege when working with diverse populations. High comfort level working in a stressful environment and the ability to self-motivate. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style when approaching colleagues, survivors, and community partners. Proficiency in creating and editing documents and training using Word and Power Point and utilizing Outlook for electronic mail communications. Imaginative big picture thinker who has the flexibility to think outside of the box, try new ideas and let go of those that are not bearing fruit. Excellent oral and written communication skills in an environment where clear and consistent communication is expected and required among all staff.
ESSENTAL DUTIES & RESPONSABILITES
Other duties may be assigned Provide direct supervision to assigned Residential Advocates. Ensure residential advocates are completing data entry tasks in Empower DB prior to the end of their shift. Work collaboratively with the HSA onboarding team to train, support, mentor, hire, evaluate, and discipline staff. Complete individual or group supervision meetings at least once per month with all shelter staff with detailed supervision notes. Review staff timesheets for accuracy and completion. Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are followed in the department, communicating proactively with the Emergency Services Coordinator as soon as issues arise. Create monthly residential advocate shift schedules and on-call staff schedules. Work variant, rotating shifts that allow connection to multiple shifts and staff members, including regular weekend coverage. Manage coverage of open shifts as they are known. Provide emergency shelter services, information, and support to survivors in a manner that supports empowerment and respecting participant's right to autonomy. Manage the 24-Hour Help and Support line and ensure quality advocacy, information and referrals, and supportive listening services are being provided accurately. Plan and facilitate monthly residential advocate staff meetings. Work residential advocate shifts and on call shifts for coverage as necessary. Document individual activity in compliance with agency, funding sources guidelines and procedures. Manage the safety and cleanliness of the emergency shelter in compliance with agency health and safety requirements including completion and accountability for shifts task lists, repair and maintenance, safety drills, and other safety considerations in partnership with the Health and Safety Committee. Track and monitor all shelter supply needs and requests; communicate purchasing needs to the appropriate staff. Ensure all shelter residents receive and review handbooks and are fully informed and aware of health and safety requirements and guidelines for communal living; revisit this regularly with residents on an individual basis as requested or as needed. Utilize personal and/or agency vehicle to safely transport survivors to service-related activities/facilities/events as required. In compliance with state and federal confidentiality and legal guidelines, maintain the strictest level of confidentiality. Attend all training courses as required by agency, funding/accreditation source standards. Serve on a minimum of one agency/staff committee. Perform additional program tasks as prescribed by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
While survivorship is not a requirement for employment with Hope Shores Alliance, we value the contributions survivors make in doing this work and we celebrate our shared collaboration in the movement. Be able to regularly lift survivor belongings up to 25-40 pounds, navigate stairs, and sort donations or supplies. Must successfully complete intra-agency domestic violence and sexual assault training within the initial 30 days of employment Attend and successfully complete MCEDSV New Service Provider Training within the initial 180 days of employment. Must successfully complete all other job related required training within 180 days of employment. Must possess or attain Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification within the first 180 days of employment as provided by Hope Shores Alliance. Must possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable engaging in challenging conversations and comfortable engaging with diverse audiences and stakeholders. Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record as well as provide proof of valid insurance. Must pass Criminal History, Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry and State and National Sex Offender background checks.
