Job Description

Harmony Hill School (HHS), a private, non-profit organization providing residential and day treatment services to adolescent males in Glocester, RI, is seeking a caring, experienced direct care professional to join our team as an Assistant Supervisor in our Residential Youth Care department. Our picturesque school campus is just a 20-30 minute commute from many
RI/CT/MA
cities and towns. In partnership with the Youth Care Supervisor, you will work collaboratively to support your assigned team in ensuring the safe, consistent and professional care and program treatment for the adolescent males in your assigned dormitory. The Assistant Supervisor fulfills direct care responsibilities and leads dormitory operations. This is a full time position working 40 hours per week. The work schedule is a mix of day, evening and weekend shifts. Job Responsibilities:
Ensure that dormitory operations, youth supervision, and staff supervision are in accordance with HHS policies and procedures and all licensing agency requirements. Provide leadership, coaching, training, and supervision to staff to ensure that proper and trained therapeutic treatment and management of the youth is in place 24/7. Consult and collaborate with varied disciplines including social work clinicians, medical, nursing, psychological and administrative staff. Promote a positive environment focusing on personal safety, respect and responsibility. Effectively care for, supervise, and counsel youth. Manage crises and emergencies as needed. Guide youth in their interactions, utilizing Collaborative Problem Solving and trauma-informed care principles, and role-modeling appropriate communication and conduct. Follow the daily program schedule and adhere to youth treatment plan guidelines. Observe, redirect and manage behavioral issues. Follow agency guidelines to restrain a youth when necessary for safety reasons. Clearly and completely record all pertinent information in the daily activity and communication logs.
Skills & Attributes:
Excellent communication and collaboration skills along with the ability to prioritize multiple needs and deadlines; Strong conflict management and de-escalation skills; Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, juvenile justice, and residential treatment best practices; An understanding and aptitude for the operation of a 24 hour, 7 day a week program in a residential care setting. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of youth, families, and professionals. Possess a knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is preferred. Significant residential/youth care experience will be considered in lieu of education; 1-3 years past supervisory experience is required; Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; Experience working with youth in the care of the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF); Physical requirements of this position include: frequent standing, sitting, walking; occasional running; lifting of up to 20lbs. Must have the ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques including youth restraint when necessary. Must successfully complete required driving record, criminal, and child abuse/neglect pre-employment screenings and maintain favorable results during employment.
