AFFAIRS SPECIALIST
This regional governmental agency has an immediate need for a temporary Public Affairs Specialist to provide support to our Legislative & Public Affairs/Media Office. Candidates should be dependable, with responsible community liaison experience, and must possess the following:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, business or public administration, political science, or other directly related field. Two years of responsible experience conducting research, writing and editing various materials and articles for dissemination, performing various liaison functions, coordinating events, performing outreach, and preparing and making public presentations before groups. Principles and practices of public information, journalism, and public affairs; principles of graphic design and photography; PC word processing and presentation software applications; techniques and methods for the dissemination of information and development of public outreach and participation programs; principles used in writing, composition, layout, and production of print, electronic, and video educational, informational, and promotional materials; principles of video production and the operation of related equipment; and proper English usage, including correct grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Learn, synthesize, and clearly communicate technical and complex organizational information to non-technical audiences in a variety of formats; deal diplomatically and effectively with the public, the media, representatives of the business community, and other special interest groups; make effective oral presentations to a wide variety of audiences; operate a PC proficiently to create presentation materials and prepare clear and professionally written documents, such as reports, speeches, news releases, and various educational, promotional, and informational materials; operate video and other presentation equipment; use a camera and related equipment effectively for photography assignments; read, understand, and follow verbal and written directions; and establish and maintain effective relationships with all those contacted in the course of work. Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's license and a good driving record.
EXAMPLE OF JOB DUTIES
Participates in the development and coordination of public information, public participation, and community liaison programs and activities to advise and disseminate information to the general public, school districts, public agencies, the news media, private organizations, and the business community regarding Firm's's functions, program activities, policies, rules, regulations, and administrative proceedings. Conducts research and prepares various written documents, such as publications, news releases, brochures, fact sheets, pamphlets, speeches, newsletters, and advertisements for use or distribution; and prepares correspondence in response to inquiries, general complaints, and suggestions relative to Firm's programs and activities. Works with representatives of other organizations, both public and private, to disseminate information regarding Firm's programs and ensure maximum public use of and benefit from Firm's services; and develops and maintains outlets, through print and electronic media, for announcements of Firm's activities and services. Assists in planning, arranging, and coordinating workshops, special conferences, promotional events, news conferences, and public hearings on Firm's rules, regulations, and issues relating to air quality; and coordinates visitor tours. Performs liaison duties, represents Firm's, and participates in a variety of community activities and forums, and makes oral presentations at workshops, panel discussions, fairs, and other events. Plans, designs, and arranges for the production of posters, signs, exhibits, and displays; arranges exhibits at meetings, workshops, and other community and civic programs; and assists in developing, designing, producing, and presenting Firm's films, slide shows, and other audio-visual programs and operates related equipment. Performs photography assignments for presentations or publications; develops script materials; coordinates site locations, production schedules, equipment, and personnel; and performs related production activities. May assist small business owners in applying for permits and for variances from Firm's rules and regulations.

Four 10-hour days, Tuesday
