Hospitality House is an emergency shelter and housing provider serving low-income and homeless residents in Nevada County. Hospitality House provides pathways to housing by bringing homeless residents into a compassionate circle of community care that offers shelter, housing resources, sustenance, opportunity, dignity, and hope as they transition from homelessness to housing. We are seeking a strategic, mission-driven Deputy Director to help lead our organization into its next chapter. POSITION SUMMARY
Hospitality House seeks a full-time Deputy Director to help manage the day-to-day operations of the organization alongside the Executive Director. The Deputy Director is a senior executive-level role providing strategic, operational, and programmatic oversight in close partnership with the Executive Director. The Deputy Director will directly supervise the Housing and Supportive Services Officer, the CalAIM Manager, and the Development team, while supporting programmatic divisions to ensure high-quality services, regulatory compliance, and mission alignment. When needed, the Deputy Director will serve as the Acting Executive Director. This role is intentionally structured as a succession pathway to the Executive Director position. The Deputy Director will receive mentorship and hands-on training in governance, development, financial stewardship, human resources, and operations to build readiness to assume full organizational leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership and Visioning Partner with the Executive Director to design and implement the strategic framework that upholds Hospitality House's values, mission, and vision. Serve as a visible ambassador of the agency in community, regional, and state-level collaborations, task forces, and public forums. Keep abreast of evolving best practices in homelessness services, program design, and regulatory compliance, bringing innovation back to the agency. Programmatic Oversight and Personnel Management Provide direct supervision and mentorship to the Housing and Supportive Services Officer, CalAIM Manager, and Development Director, as well as other applicable staff. Ensure case management, shelter, outreach, and housing programs are delivered in alignment with best practices, contractual requirements, and agency standards. Support staff recruitment, training, and retention efforts to ensure consistent service quality. Partner with HR in staff development planning; conduct regular performance evaluations and recommend recognition/reward as appropriate. Grants, Contracts, Database Management, and CalAIM Compliance Collaborate with the Director of Business Operations and other members of leadership to ensure effective data collection, reporting, and compliance for grants and contracts. Partner with Business Operations to monitor program budgets, reimbursements, and regulatory reporting obligations. Participate in proposal development and reporting processes to strengthen funding streams. Community Relations Represent Hospitality House in collaborative partnerships with service providers, local government, funders, donors, and community stakeholders. Actively participate in education, outreach, and advocacy efforts to raise awareness of homelessness and the organization's impact. Strengthen Hospitality House's public profile by cultivating strong relationships with civic leaders, business partners, faith communities, and philanthropists. CalAIM Program Oversight Provide leadership oversight of Hospitality House's CalAIM Program, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, contract requirements, and organizational policies. Supervise and support the CalAIM Manager, ensuring accurate and timely billing, audits, reporting, and data management. Partner with Business Operations, HR, and program leadership to ensure CalAIM staff are trained, resourced, and compliant with evolving CalAIM standards. Monitor performance and quality metrics, ensuring CalAIM services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with best practices. Serve as a liaison with managed care plans, funders, and state/local agencies regarding CalAIM implementation and compliance. Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team to integrate CalAIM program outcomes into broader organizational strategy, sustainability planning, and funding requests. Fundraising and Development Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Development Department; help guide fundraising initiatives, including donor cultivation and stewardship activities. Participate in major donor meetings, foundation presentations, and community events to strengthen relationships and enhance donor engagement. Oversee the preparation of donor-facing materials, impact reports, and funding proposals that highlight program outcomes and organizational impact. Provide additional support for major gift solicitation, planned giving strategies, and grant cultivation, with the goal of developing long-term fundraising leadership capacity. Technology, Data & IT Oversight Ensure organizational compliance with HIPAA, data privacy, and security protocols through policies, audits, and staff training. Oversee the development and maintenance of agency-wide data systems, including HMIS and other internal platforms, ensuring data integrity and timely reporting. In collaboration with the Director of Business Operations, help manage vendor relationships with IT service providers, cybersecurity contractors, and hardware/software suppliers. Direct technology planning, budgeting, and implementation to ensure IT systems scale with organizational growth and meet regulatory standards. Ensure agency staff are trained and supported in the use of internal databases, software platforms, and IT equipment. Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making by ensuring accurate reporting, analysis, and dashboards are available to leadership, program teams, and funders. Executive Leadership Duties Prepare Board materials and Executive and Finance Committee agendas. Attend Board and committee meetings to gain experience in Board relations, compliance, and policy development; help lead meetings in the Executive Director's absence. Engage in structured learning under the Executive Director in board governance, financial management, HR leadership, operations oversight, and fundraising. Support organizational projects that strengthen long-term sustainability and prepare for eventual Executive Director succession.
ATTENDANCE
Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work commitments, where applicable.

The needs of Hospitality House may be dependent on responding to and anticipating rapidly changing external and internal demands in all aspects of how business is conducted. This may include, but is not limited to, organization structure, finances, goals, personnel, work processes, technology, and community demands. Therefore, it may become necessary to make modifications to how business is conducted, and work is accomplished, with minimal or no advance notice to employees. Accordingly, the employee must be capable of adapting with minimal or no advance notice to change in how business is conducted and work is accomplished, with no diminishment in work performance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Hospitality House's policies and applicable laws, the Deputy Director directly supervises the Housing and Supportive Services Officer, CalAIM Manager, and Development team. Directly or by delegation, the Deputy Director coordinates and evaluates all program staff; interviews, hires, and trains employees; and plans, assigns, and directs work. In coordination with the People Coordinator, the Deputy Director appraises performance, recommends recognition and discipline, and addresses complaints and resolves personnel matters.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred. Five to seven years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience, including program management and staff supervision. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse and vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance use. Experience with fundraising, donor stewardship, and cultivating major gifts preferred. Familiarity with board relations, nonprofit governance, and grant funding preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or the Board of Directors.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Office 365); experience with Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) and grant/contract management databases preferred.

Strong relationship-building skills with funders, government partners, community leaders, and the Board of Directors. Demonstrated compassion and cultural humility in working with individuals experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations. Ensures confidentiality and data privacy standards, including HIPAA, are met or exceeded at all times. Comfortable stepping into an Acting Executive Director role and representing the organization at the highest level when needed. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing Board materials and public presentations. Genuine enthusiasm for mentorship, professional growth, and eventually stepping into executive leadership of the organization.
