Job Description

BENT COUNTYECONOMIC DEVELOPER JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine and complex administrative work in supporting existing businesses and developing new business and industry within Bent County, population 5,650, for the purpose of expanding the economy, providing employment opportunities and strengthening property and sales taxes.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the County Administrator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with creation and implementation of strategic plan for economic growth in conjunction with Bent County Board of Commissioners and county municipalities.
  • Aid in identifying expansion opportunities for existing businesses and industries as well as conduct discussions and negotiations with private and public sector agencies regarding economic development initiatives.
  • Identify and recruit new business and industry into Bent County consistent with the initiatives and policies established by the Bent County Commissioners.
  • Maintain a detailed and accurate community profile and demographic information used in promotional and funding proposal materials.
  • Prepare and disseminate information regarding land availability, buildings and other facilities conducive to the promotion, expansion, and recruitment of business and industry.
  • Oversee the identification of business needs countywide. Facilitate activities necessary to satisfy identified needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals, organizations, and relevant government agencies as well as a network of partners and prospective business leads.
  • Participate in regional and statewide economic planning activities.
  • Maintain a current incentive package in conjunction with municipalities and Bent County to be used to encourage expanding existing business and/or in the recruitment of new business and industry. The incentive package should be consistent with the initiatives and policies developed with Bent County Commissioners.
  • Serve as Enterprise Zone Deputy, marketing of Enterprise Zone tax credits, administrator of tax incentive policy, and all other related duties.
  • Provide timely reporting and updates to the BOCC regarding the Highway 50 Corridor and other transportation related topics.
  • Provide project management for a variety of Bent County initiatives.
  • Provide monthly reports on activities and assignments to the County Administrator and to the Board of Commissioners.
  • Attend all meetings, workshops, etc.

BOCC. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to pass drug screens as required by the Bent County Personnel Policy
  • Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or related work experience in the field of business development and strategic planning
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of finance, accounting, project evaluation, budget development, and marketing as applicable to economic development strategies and records.
  • Have working knowledge of government economic development grants.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with local governments and community leaders in planning, developing and implementing special projects and community economic development programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Appropriate professional dress and personal grooming are required at all times.
  • Travel, early mornings, evening hours and weekends are part of this full-time position.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Skill in the operation of computers (including proficiency in Word, spread sheets, etc.
).
SALARY & BENEFITS
  • Salary range: $45,760 to $54,080/annually
  • Benefits include health/dental/vision/life insurance, and paid time off
  • Business related travel reimbursed, including mileage and lodging
