We are a dedicated team of professionals who value hard work, and a flexible, honest work environment. The Landlord Engagement Specialist will identify, recruit, and build strong relationships with landlords, property management companies, and realtors in the Greater Hartford region to expand housing opportunities for people experiencing homelessness, including households eligible for subsidized housing programs. This position plays a critical role in supporting housing search and placement efforts across the Greater Hartford Coordinated Access Network (CAN). The Specialist will maintain a centralized inventory of available units, ensure units meet program and subsidy requirements, and provide education, technical assistance, and mediation to landlords and housing providers. The Specialist will also strengthen the broader housing system by developing new landlord partnerships, supporting affordable housing and housing authority opportunities, and maintaining accurate landlord and unit data. This is a relationship-driven position that helps turn housing opportunities into permanent homes.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Landlord Engagement/ Housing Search :
Build and maintain strong relationships with property owners, property managers, and realtors by educating them about the population served and the benefits of partnering with housing programs. Recruit and engage new landlord partners to expand housing opportunities for households experiencing homelessness. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of available units across the Greater Hartford region and match housing opportunities with the needs of households and housing programs. Conduct unit showings and Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections and provide technical assistance to landlords to help units meet program requirements. Coordinate lease-up activities and required documentation, working with landlords and providers to support successful and timely housing placements. Identify funding, rehabilitation, subsidy, and shared housing opportunities that can expand housing access and strengthen landlord participation. Support housing providers across the Greater Hartford CAN by identifying housing opportunities, helping navigate landlord relationships, and addressing barriers to successful placements.
Affordable Housing Partnerships Coordination:
Track and identify affordable housing opportunities across the region, including housing authority units, subsidized housing, vouchers, and other affordable housing programs. Monitor housing authority preferences, set-asides, and voucher opportunities and communicate available resources to housing providers. Coordinate with housing providers, landlords, and housing authorities to help facilitate successful housing placements and address barriers. Identify and develop new housing partnerships with landlords, developers, housing authorities, and other housing programs to expand access to affordable housing. Information Sharing and Data Collection Provide ongoing technical assistance to providers related to data systems and program paperwork, including the CT HMIS system. Provide ongoing quality control over the submission of paperwork and data entry for clients Mediation and Housing Stability Serve as a liaison between landlords and housing providers to support successful housing placements and stable tenancies. Provide mediation, problem-solving, and technical assistance to address landlord-tenant concerns and prevent barriers to housing stability. Develop and share educational materials and guidance that help landlords and providers navigate housing programs and promote successful tenancies. Build positive, ongoing landlord relationships and encourage continued participation in housing programs. Organizational support Support system-wide housing search efforts by collaborating with CAN providers, identifying gaps in housing access, and contributing to strategies that improve housing placement outcomes. Represent the Central and Greater Hartford CANs on relevant statewide, regional, and local committees, sharing information and bringing back strategies and resources that strengthen local efforts to end homelessness. Collaborate with Journey Home staff and provide cross-coverage for other CAN functions as needed. Contribute to Journey Home's broader organizational efforts, including grant writing, communications, advocacy, fundraising, and community outreach. Participate in system-wide activities such as the annual Point-in-Time Count and other initiatives that support Journey Home's mission to end homelessness.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS

Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full-time, exempt position Annual salary of $52,000 - $56,000 per year; salary based on experience and qualifications, not salary history Generous medical/vision/dental/disability benefits 401K Match Paid time off - 12 holidays, vacation, personal time and sick leave
