Job Description

Assistant Public Works Director City of Kingsland, Georgia Salary:
$$58,521.56 - $88,430.10 annually Based of Qualifications The City of Kingsland is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Public Works Director to support the Public Works Director in leading and overseeing the operations of the Public Works Department. This is a key leadership position responsible for supporting departmental operations, personnel, budgets, infrastructure projects, and capital improvement initiatives. The Assistant Public Works Director will work closely with City leadership, employees, contractors, outside agencies, and the community to ensure public services and infrastructure are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable requirements. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, public works experience, project management abilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced municipal environment. The Assistant Public Works Director may serve as the Director in their absence. Position Responsibilities The Assistant Public Works Director will: Supervise, direct, train, and evaluate Public Works employees in accordance with City policies and applicable laws Interview and assist with hiring, employee development, performance management, and disciplinary matters Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and guidance to departmental staff Assist with developing long-range goals, strategic plans, policies, procedures, and organizational objectives Develop and implement operational plans and strategies to achieve departmental goals Oversee departmental operations and coordinate activities across divisions, including engineering, streets, and facilities Manage and monitor capital improvement projects and other departmental projects Review plans and inspection activities and ensure compliance with contracts, specifications, and applicable requirements Coordinate procurement activities and work with contractors, consultants, and vendors Manage and monitor the department's budget, including funding requests, financial recommendations, budget records, and quarterly reports Participate in budget meetings, public hearings, committees, task forces, and interdepartmental teams Serve as a liaison between Public Works, other City departments, governmental agencies, contractors, community organizations, and the public Address operational concerns, project issues, citizen inquiries, and administrative matters Ensure departmental activities meet federal, state, and local regulations and established City standards Represent the department at meetings and provide presentations and reports as needed Maintain current knowledge of public works practices, technology, regulations, and industry standards Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field Ten (10) years of progressively responsible related experience , or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities Knowledge of public works operations, municipal government, project management, budgeting, personnel management, and applicable laws and regulations Knowledge of heavy equipment operations Strong leadership and staff management abilities Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions Ability to plan, organize, delegate, and monitor work Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through with minimal direction Ability to communicate effectively with employees, citizens, contractors, City officials, governmental agencies, and the public Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, manuals, policies, and other technical documents Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, initiative, and professionalism Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to apply practical mathematical concepts, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions Employee Benefits The City of Kingsland offers a comprehensive benefits package valued at up to $30,000 annually , depending on selected coverage.
