Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District Job Posting Internal/External The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500. The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employees/contractors providing services to our local districts and students. The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.
Purpose of Position:
Strategically directs and leads the work of the EUP region within the state MiSTEM Network and is the voice of the region at the state level. The Region Director will work to build collaborative partnerships that align regional objectives to implement the state MiSTEM strategic plan, STEM strategy, and vision. The Region Director is hired by the MiSTEM Network Executive Director in collaboration with the EUPISD (fiscal agent).
Period of Employment:
12-month position, 7 hours per day, 245 days per year
Required Education and Experience Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant STEM experience 2 years of project/program management experience Experience bridging education with business and industry, working with philanthropic and/or community programs to actively support opportunities for all learners Demonstrated experience in fund development, braiding and leveraging resources, and ethical procurement (i.e. avoiding conflict of interest, following bidding guidelines etc.) Ability to coordinate and lead stakeholders toward consensus and action Strong leadership skills and experience in developing and managing networks to serve a common aim Ability to anticipate and respond to changing expectations based on state policy direction/adjustment Culturally responsive Knowledge of the Region and its stakeholders; Ability to identify, generate and interpret data and evidence to guide decisions about initiatives and improvement efforts Demonstrated accomplishments conceiving, structuring, and leading significant STEM education and/or talent development programs Ability to comprehend and employ a systems perspective to problem solving and lead improvement efforts High skill level in using computer technology in office/educational applications Strong organizational and time management skills, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, diligent work habits, and the ability to apply common sense to routine decision-making Ability to maintain self-control and complete tasks with frequent interruptions Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Must have regular and reliable attendance Ability to carry and move heavy objects and lift 40 lbs Possess a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant STEM business/industry experience 5 years of project/program management experience Experience managing cross-functional teams The ideal candidate will have a blend of education and business experience
Duties and Responsibilities :
Convene and connect with state and regional stakeholders to support community building Develop regional objectives in alignment with the MiSTEM strategic plan, vision, and state STEM strategy Pursue, apply, and leverage other state, federal, and philanthropic/corporate funds Systematically build and oversee a MiSTEM Region Advisory Board with a regionally representative group of stakeholders that commit to the statewide strategic plan, STEM strategy, and vision to support the region director in creation and execution of specific goals and implementation plans for the MiSTEM region Direct the gathering, generation, and oversight of the relevant needs and impact data to guide progress toward regional goals in alignment with state objectives Direct the identification, mapping, and coordination of resources to support Region STEM stakeholders and activities in implementation of the statewide STEM strategy Manage budgets, sub-grant agreements, and contracts Work with policymakers and other government staff to represent the state and/or Region in STEM initiatives Collaborate and communicate with all MiSTEM Network Region Directors, governor appointed Advisory Council members, the LEO-MiSTEM Executive Director and LEO-MiSTEM state staff Lead regional marketing strategy in alignment with state communications plan to lift up best practices and disseminate opportunities and experiences regionally and statewide Collaborate with staff within the General Education Department and EUPISD as a whole Facilitate application and implementation of state and federal funds and other grants or funds for the
EUP STEM
Region Be available and travel within the region and state as needed for completion of duties, professional development, attend meetings within and outside of normal working hours Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Wages and Fringes:
Up to $120,000/year dependent upon education, experience, and certifications.
