Job Description

We are seeking an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Director of Public Works & Engineering, helping guide a 35-person division that maintains 245 lane miles of city streets. The City of Branson is seeking an experienced and service-focused leader to serve as Assistant Director of Public Works & Engineering. This executive-level position helps lead the department's daily operations, including street and right-of-way maintenance, fleet maintenance, capital improvements, and other essential public services. Working closely with the Public Works & Engineering Director, the Assistant Director will provide leadership to division supervisors, technical personnel, and support staff while helping ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service to Branson's residents, businesses, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Assist with planning, directing, and evaluating departmental operations. Supervise assigned staff, including performance management, employee development, discipline, and hiring. Coordinate operational, maintenance, and capital improvement projects. Help prepare and manage operating and capital improvement budgets. Review construction plans, specifications, bids, cost estimates, contracts, and project proposals. Develop departmental goals, procedures, work plans, and operational priorities. Respond to citizen questions, requests, suggestions, and concerns. Collaborate with City departments, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, elected officials, and community organizations. Conduct site visits and monitor construction and public works projects. Assume responsibility for Public Works operations in the Director's absence. What We're Looking For The successful candidate will be a collaborative and dependable leader with strong supervisory, project-management, communication, budgeting, and problem-solving skills. Candidates should understand public works operations and be comfortable balancing administrative leadership with field-based responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in public administration, construction management, business administration, civil engineering, or a closely related field. Seven years of relevant experience may be considered in place of the degree, as determined by the Department Director. Four years of supervisory experience. Valid driver's license and ability to meet the City's vehicle-insurability requirements. Passing score on the written portion of the Class A or B CDL examination before employment. Ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL with tanker endorsement within six months of employment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to successfully complete a background investigation and drug and alcohol screenings. Preferred Qualification Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri. $79,000.00 - $91,000.00 per year
