Job Description

SUMMARY :
We are looking for an experienced leader to oversee three flagship programs at the Northshore Senior Center (NSC): adaptive recreation, paratransit, and adult day health. The Director oversees management of all three departments and builds strong teams to carry out NSC's vision. The Director also serves as a key leader of the organization, guiding NSC's growth and expansion, and perpetuating its 50-year record of best-in-class operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Aging and Adaptive Services is a key leader at one of the largest non-residential senior centers in the country and helps ensure a strong system of supports for people navigating the aging process. Supervising diverse teams of professionals, this position ensures compliance with program standards, develops new approaches to maintaining healthy independence for aging adults, and builds a work culture of respect and professionalism in each of these program areas: Adult Day Health provides expert clinical care and social/recreational programming for adults experiencing physical, mental, or social challenges. The state-approved program operates with about 15 staff and also supports family caregivers. Inclusion (Wranglers) supports youth and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in adaptive social/recreational activities that include arts, life skills, and Special Olympics sports. Transportation provides over 20,000 on-demand rides annually with a fleet of twelve paratransit vehicles and a team of professional drivers. The Director of Aging and Adaptive Services works with their team to: Plan and execute a wide variety of programs for older adults and people with disabilities who require various levels of care and support. Ensure that programs are consistent, high quality, safe, and responsive to community needs & interests. Oversee a large team of paid and volunteer staff working across multiple locations. Design and implement program operations that are effective and effcient. Drive registrations and enrollments to ensure adequate program revenue and manage expenses to achieve financial targets. Communicate effectively with center participants, colleagues, and the public to promote healthy aging; employ strong customer service skills and impart them to others. Use data and metrics to ensure that organizational goals are being met as efficiently as possible. Design registration and payment practices that support quality customer experience. Align programs with the organization's efforts to expand cultural competency and serve an increasingly diverse and intergenerational population. Collaborate with colleagues on NSC's Leadership Team; plan and execute enterprise-level projects with the CEO and the other NSC Directors. Other duties as assigned

Founded in 1972, Northshore Senior Center has grown to be one of the largest senior centers in the US, providing support across the aging spectrum. NSC focuses on holistic services (arts, education, health, socialization, travel, fitness, etc.) for older adults, people with disabilities, their families, and their community. Our dedicated staff and volunteers, welcoming facilities, and nearly 300 programs create a vibrant place to connect, learn, and thrive.
RELATIONSHIPS
Supervised by Chief Executive Officer. Maintain positive working relationships and work cooperatively with all people who are part of the work environment. Interact with NSC members and participants in positive ways promoting engagement. Maintain or develop community partnerships with nonprofit, commercial, and governmental organizations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This job directly supervises full-time program managers and coordinators, as well as some part-time positions. Combined, the three program areas include over 40 full-time and part-time program staff (regular employees, contract employees, and volunteers). Supervisory responsibilities may be adjusted in response to organizational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. A four-year degree or equivalent professional experience in business, gerontology, psychology, social work or related field is required ; Master's degree in Health Administration, Public Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business Management, or similar field is strongly preferred . 2. Four years experience in non-profit, public sector, or senior sector environment with responsibility for contract management, finances, policies and procedures, and/or program design is required ; experience working with older adults, people with disabilities, and/or diverse populations is preferred . 3. Four years experience supervising and developing staff is required. 4. Four years experience in leadership positions involving strategic planning and outcome development is preferred . 5. Two years experience with community engagement and developing partnerships is preferred .
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 2. Excellent customer service, relationship-building and conflict resolution skills. 3. Proficient with office technology platforms (including Microsoft Office applications) and database management. 4. Ability to engage with individuals and groups. 5. Organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a complex work environment with distractions and unexpected circumstances. 6. Ability to write, edit, and review policies, procedures and plans. 7. Ability to assess situations and build solutions. 8. Ability to coach people and develop teams, especially volunteer teams. 9. Able to work independently and creatively. 10. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of widely diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds. Employees are required to complete a Washington State Patrol Criminal History Background Check and Criminal History Self-Disclosure Form.
