Exempt Jackson Kayak is seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Manager to lead shipping for Jackson Kayak, Eddyline Kayaks, and contract products. This role also provides oversight and support for Werner Paddles shipping. We ship products in a wide range of shapes and sizes, from small parcels to large kayaks and truckload shipments. The manager must keep orders moving, choose cost-effective shipping methods, coordinate carriers, and lead a team of up to six employees. This is a hands-on role in a busy operation where priorities can change quickly. We are also launching direct-to-consumer (DTC) shipping. The right candidate will have experience with both commercial freight and the retail side of fulfillment, including individual customer orders, parcel shipping, packaging, and delivery expectations. Responsibilities Lead day-to-day shipping and receiving operations for Jackson Kayak, Eddyline Kayaks, and contract shipments; provide secondary oversight and support for Werner Paddles shipping. Supervise, train, schedule, and develop a team of up to six employees. Plan staffing and control labor hours while meeting shipping commitments. Schedule pickups, arrange trucks, and compare carriers, routes, rates, transit times, and service levels to select the best freight option for each shipment. Direct the picking, packing, protection, staging, loading, and documentation of products of different sizes and handling requirements. Manage shipping for wholesale customers and the growing DTC business, including parcel orders, packaging standards, shipment accuracy, and customer delivery expectations. Coordinate with production, customer service, sales, and other departments to resolve shortages, changing priorities, shipment holds, and delivery issues. Prepare and verify bills of lading, shipping labels, and other required records. Investigate freight damage, shortages, and shipping discrepancies. Monitor shipping performance, freight costs, labor use, and order accuracy; identify problems and improve processes. Maintain adequate shipping supplies and participate directly in warehouse work during peak periods or when needed. Qualifications At least three years of experience managing shipping, receiving, logistics, or fulfillment operations, including direct supervision of employees. Demonstrated experience shipping a mix of large or irregularly shaped products and smaller parcel orders. Experience arranging freight, evaluating carrier options, and managing shipping costs. Experience with retail or DTC fulfillment, including individual orders and UPS, FedEx, or comparable parcel systems. Strong judgment and problem-solving skills under time pressure. Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate across departments. Strong computer and recordkeeping skills; ERP experience preferred. A degree in supply chain, logistics, or a related field is preferred but not required.
