What the role is about:
Prolific Supply is seeking an experienced, highly analytical Director of Freight & Logistics to lead freight strategy and transportation optimization across our portfolio of operating companies, including Hawthorne Gardening, Bridgewell, and future acquisition platforms. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive will develop an integrated freight and logistics strategy designed to reduce total landed and transportation costs while maintaining or improving customer service and operating excellence. This is a hands-on transformation and value-creation role: the Director will evaluate the existing freight network, contracts, carriers, 3PL relationships, distribution points, systems, and transportation practices, and build a more efficient enterprise-wide model capable of supporting both current operations and future acquisitions. Success will be measured through service performance, freight productivity, cost reduction, working-capital efficiency, and measurable EBITDA contribution. What impact you'll make: Enterprise Freight Strategy Develop and execute an integrated freight and transportation strategy across Hawthorne Gardening, Bridgewell, and future Prolific Supply acquisitionsIdentify opportunities to combine freight volumes, carriers, routes, distribution points, and transportation contracts across operating companiesEstablish an enterprise approach to inbound and outbound freight managementEvaluate the total transportation network rather than managing individual freight movements in isolationDevelop scalable logistics processes capable of supporting future acquisitions Freight Cost Reduction & EBITDA Creation Establish a comprehensive baseline of enterprise freight spendIdentify immediate and long-term opportunities to reduce transportation and logistics costsQuantify each major initiative in terms of expected annual savings and EBITDA contributionTrack forecasted versus realized savings, partnering with Finance to ensure results are measurableMaintain freight-cost reduction without compromising customer service, delivery reliability, or operating excellence Carrier, 3PL & Contract Negotiation Review existing carrier, broker, 3PL, rail, ocean-freight, drayage, and related transportation agreementsLead negotiations and competitive bidding processes across major freight and supplier categoriesConsolidate enterprise purchasing power where economically advantageousDevelop carrier scorecards and contractual service expectationsContinuously evaluate market pricing, capacity, service levels, and alternative providers Multi-Modal Transportation Management (Truck & Rail)
Truck:
full truckload, less-than-truckload, dedicated transportation, 3PL/brokerage, intermodal opportunities, and direct-to-customer/DC deliveries
Rail:
railcar utilization and economics, rail routing and scheduling, demurrage reduction, and rail-versus-truck economics
Ocean & Container:
overseas container movement, East/West Coast port strategy, drayage, container utilization, and demurrage/detention reduction International Supply Chain Own import transportation efficiency and overseas container movement strategyManage port and terminal costs and inland drayage across coastal gatewaysBuild enterprise visibility into cross-border and international freight flows to support future global sourcing Distribution Network Optimization Evaluate the current national distribution footprint across Prolific SupplyIdentify shared distribution locations supporting multiple operating companiesAnalyze cross-docking, shipment consolidation, and pooling opportunitiesSupport future facility and distribution-network decisions using quantitative freight and service-level analysis Technology & Systems Integration Support migration toward a unified warehouse management system and enterprise ERP integrationDefine freight and transportation data requirements and evaluate TMS capabilitiesUse technology and data to improve routing, visibility, carrier management, and forecasting KPI & Performance Management Establish a standardized enterprise freight scorecard: total freight spend, cost per shipment, on-time performance, carrier service, utilization, detention/demurrage, claims, and cost savings versus baselineProvide management with clear visibility into cost, service, trends, exceptions, and financial impact M&A Integration Assess acquired-company freight networks and contracts, and identify immediate transportation synergiesConsolidate carrier and 3PL relationships where appropriate and evaluate distribution-network overlapQuantify integration savings and EBITDA opportunities with clear implementation timelines What you've accomplished: Significant transportation, freight, logistics, distribution, or supply-chain leadership experience in large-scale distribution and/or manufacturing environmentsProven experience negotiating fees and contracts with carriers, 3PLs, and suppliers, including competitive bidding across major freight categoriesHands-on expertise across multi-modal freight management, including truckload, LTL, rail, intermodal, and international/ocean container transportationExperience managing an international or cross-border supply chain, including port strategy, drayage, and import transportationTrack record in distribution-network optimization and freight procurement/contract managementExperience with ERP, WMS, and transportation-management technology, including systems conversion and integrationExperience operating across multi-company or multi-location organizations, including M&A integrationA sophisticated, data-driven negotiator who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and communicates effectively across operations, sales, supply chain, finance, and executive leadership What we offer:
Compensation:
